Language

Usrayan (mix of Ukrainian and Spanish) and English/Tuzhaz

Capital City

Zaporropol, located in the north west of the RPCU at a curve in the Zaporropol river that gives the city its name, also serves as the home for the RPCUs largest tourist district featuring attractions such as the Usrayan Museum of Revolution. The RPCUs main aircraft manufacturer, Aero Union Zaporropol/Chumak is also based out of a large factory complex/Airfield on the city's outskirts. Population of 2 Million.

National Population

Aprox 50 million, demographic swings slightly younger as a result of older landowners fleeing the revolution and the death of many military aged people during the Great War and Revolution. Socially, the RPCU's population is equal in almost all areas of civil rights.

Government

RPCU is made up of a series of communes, and the decisions of the RPCU are made by a congress of officials elected from their respective communes by direct democracy from the various communes and factory/agricultural unions

Economy

The Usrayan economy can broadly be defined as market socialist with significant mutualist characteristics, but this would be an oversimplification. Practically, worker cooperatives, family farms, and community stores are the main avenues through which the average Usrayan interacts with the market. Nationally, the Usraya Workers Council (whose members are voted on in much the same way as the Communal Congress) provides low-interest loans and investment to local communities. The UWC also represents smaller economic units on the international level, allowing local business to collectively bargain for improved prices on imports and exports.

Centralization

Highly devolved (power to locals) but there is oversight over the whole government at a federal level to maintain the rights of all.

Government Cohesion

Day-to-day operations of the government involve significant debate, but the government as a whole is broadly dedicated to libertarian socialist/anarchist/communist principles. Usrayans know how to make big decisions when they are necessary, but on a daily basis there is constant debate over every detail of public policy (such are the consequences of a high-quality political education).

Terrain and Climate

Mediterranean climate, lots of offshore islands. Good for fishing, farming, and tourism. Land border is made up of a nearly impassable mountain range and a large lake.

Major Cities

Andriopol The City of Andriopol was built around maritime industry, historically. During the great war, significant investments were made by United Tuzhaz into the shipyards. However, they have largely been destroyed by strategic bombing. Andriopol is making a recovery post-revolution, however, and its economy is slowly diversifying. As the Revolution ``started” in Andriopol with the mutiny on Erebus, it is often considered the ‘home’ of the revolution. Population of approximately 1.8 Million people
Taramyia is located in the heartland of the RPCU and serves as a primary logistical hub for moving produce from the farming communes out to the cities. Population of approximately .75 Million people.
Kovopol is home to some of the worst air quality in the RPCU, thanks to its heavy industry first developed during the industrial revolution. During the great war and subsequent civil war, Kovopol’s industry was bombed to a position of near complete destruction. As of 1947, the factories are undergoing a full rebuild and the city is slowly regaining its position as the heart of Usrayan heavy industry. Home of Kovopol Steel, population of approximately 1.2 million.
The city of Marvegapol, located on the RPCU’s south western island, has received the dubious reputation of being the “Anti Andriopol” city in the RPCU due to its somewhat unsocialist behaviour. A picturesque, coastal resort town built along the hillside, well known for its sunny beaches, marinas, and INCREDIBLY drunk citizens, as of 1947 Marvegapol is looking to host an open wheel racing tournament on its notoriously hilly, winding streets. Time will tell if this idea lasts or whether this is just the result of the commune collectively drinking too much wine again. More information specifically on the town's port in the ports section. Population of approximately .5 Million

Major Ports and Harbors

Andriopol. The heart of the revolution. Built in a large bay by the United Tuzhazan Empire pre-RPCU, the dockyards were used to mass produce ships both civilian and military before and during the war. Andriopol is well connected by rail to Kovopol, where most of the raw materials used during ship construction are forged. Due to its size and location, most trade coming from northern countries comes through Andriopol. Due to the chokepoint leading into the relatively inland bay, Andriopol is also highly defensible.
Valrovsk located in the southeast, Valrovsk serves as a naval replenishment port. It also handles goods import and exports.
Lanidok is located in the north of the RPCU, and at first glance appears to be a minor industrial and military outpost, however built out of the cliffs are a series of Submarine pens, serving as the main base for the RPCU’s operational submarine fleet, originally built during the great war, the structures were too difficult to destroy and instead were abandoned, being picked up and used by the RPCU following its formation. It is connected to the rest of the RPCU by rail and sea, though a less developed road connection exists.
Marvegapol’s port serves as the RPCUs primary fishing port, as well as the main point of export for olives and olive oil in the RPCU.

Resources and Economic Produce

One of the primary reasons that Usraya was originally colonised was the extraction of its significant natural resources.

The southern mountain range along the border contains significant natural resources, specifically Iron, Gold, Copper, Zinc, Bauxite, Titanium, Silver, Nickel, Tin, Lead, Boron, Clay, Limestone, Gypsum, Salt, Uranium, Tungsten, Mangesite, Mercury, and Marble.

As a large section of Usraya is made up of high-quality farmland with almost yearlong sun, most types of agriculture thrive. Primary exports include Almonds, Avocados, Grapes, Olives and Olive Oil, Barley, Wheat, Tomatoes, Oranges, Tangerines, Lemons, Grapefruits, Pears, Apples, Peaches, Strawberries, Kiwifruits, Rice, Cherries, Sugarcane, Cotton, and most importantly Wine. Usrayan Wine is well known worldwide and is also a point of pride among those who produce it. As far as animal products go, there is a decent number of poultry and dairy, but the fishing industry is by far the most significant.

Hydropower is a large part of the Usrayan energy grid thanks to several large rivers. However, resources like coal or crude oil are scarce.

Usraya has several large industries, which will be elaborated on in the Economic Boons section.

Economic Boons

The largest industries in Usraya are Shipping/Shipbuilding, Tourism, Agriculture, Entertainment (lots of artists), Industrial manufacturing (Foundries), and Mining. Additionally, there is a developing technology sector thanks to recent imports from abroad as well as the success of Polodok Cameras.

The port of Andriopol is possibly the largest on the western continent, and its capabilities for large scale maritime industry cannot be overstated.

Throughout Usraya, there are many different destinations for tourists. Of course the most popular destination is Margevapol, a massive resort town known worldwide for its quality wine, good food, and fair weather. Surfing is a national pastime for many Usrayans, so many tourists come to experience Usraya’s beaches. For military enthusiasts (the entire population of proppunk), the battleship Erebus is open for guided tours in Andriopol. Zapporopol’s museums also serve as a tourist destination for many scholars. Additionally, Usraya’s unique way of life generally attracts those who wish to see different cultures worldwide.

As previously described, Usraya’s climate allows for a thriving agricultural sector. Usrayans enjoy a diverse diet, and Usrayan food products are enjoyed internationally. The most famous agricultural product is, of course, the wine. The products of Usrayan vineyards can be found in every corner of the globe, and receives near universal praise from wine snobs and university students alike.

The Usrayan Revolution brought about a new status quo, which allows creatives of all types to express their ideas and work in unique and interesting ways. This has resulted in Usrayan novelists, painters, and filmmakers being able to export their work globally.

The city of Kovopol is almost perpetually shrouded in smog, thanks to the industrial nature of its economy. Trains bring in raw materials from the mountains, which are then forged and machined into various products and shipped throughout the country. Notably, they provide Andriopol with almost all of the materials needed for shipbuilding.

The mining industry has flourished thanks mainly to the natural abundance of many minerals in southern Usraya. These materials are used throughout Usraya, or exported.

Usraya is also developing its tech industry, thanks to Polodok Cameras’ commitment to making “the best cameras in the world”, and the import of large numbers of computing devices, several of which were reverse engineered. Now, startup computer co-ops can be found in several major cities.

Economic Struggles

Surrounded by unfriendly or suspicious nations. The RPCU is a very new nation only founded a decade ago, and even then, is not “technically” a nation at all which causes problems. The insistence on extreme worker protections discourages foreign investment into the Communes. There is almost no naturally occurring coal or oil in Usraya, meaning basically all of it must be imported.

Technology Level

The RPCU is very skilled in the area of shipbuilding with a speciality in submarines, priding themselves with well made diesel electric submarines. Aircraft building is slightly behind, however attempting to catch up with great strides being made.

Education and Research

Heavy focus on youth education as part of advancing the formerly agricultural nation. The Andriopol Naval Institute functions partially as a specialised engineering school, hosting high level courses for the local general engineering school. There are several major universities under construction or recently opened (University of Zapporopol, Andriopol Institute of Technology, University of Marvegapol), but the oldest is Polodok University as it was the only pre-revolution university. While education quality was lacking in many areas pre-revolution, the new congress has dedicated substantial funding to set up a quality education system. It is now expected for young people to stay in school up through university, although there is still a shortage of universities. Many older Usrayans are looking forward to the new schools, as they are hoping to finally get a college degree. All Usrayans are entitled to a high-quality college education as a fundamental right.
The RPCU's goal is around education and research is to bring it to an advanced level capable of matching both its Neighbours and international allies in the Tasharkan Pact, it sees the future may lie in the stars, and is looking into utilising knowledge gained in its SAM programs to assist in any allies space programs.

Military Strength, Composition and Focus

The RPCU has a moderately sized professional Militia split into 3 branches Revolutionary Joint-Communal Army, Usrayan People's Revolutionary Air Militia (Air Force) and Usrayan People's Revolutionary Navy (Navy) as well as a large Reservist branch for part time members (Usrayan Militia). The Air militia has a focus on sturdy, rugged aircraft and operation off of highways and other unprepared airstrips to prevent impact during wartime, The Militias are heavily defensive based, with strategy based around the natural terrain of the RPCU, with units highly experienced in Guerilla warfare and living off the land, as this was their tactic of surviving and eventually winning in the Revolution. The RPCUs Land militia is made up of a number of Great War vehicles of Tuhaz or PRU origin, the Air Militia is similar however has considerably more modern equipment as it is currently undergoing a modernization effort. The navy is the most modern of the Forces and is based around a fleet of fast and quiet diesel-electric attack submarines, The famous battleship Erebus and the former Tulhazan carrier “Usrayan Revolution.”

Military Struggles

The RPCU's refusal to use a more traditional rank structure as led to some confusion of seniority within the Militias, with leadership often changing depending on who has the most skill in a certain mission, while this can have benefits it has also led to issues with clashes of personality. The RPCU does however still have a "Staff '' similar to officers of Revolution Veterans to try and maintain good military standards, as more and more of these soldiers retire there is a demand to find new "High Ranking'' Military officials to decide the Military's direction. With a few notable exceptions such as the new Rotary Wing sections, the RPCUs ground forces have been neglected since the revolution, being expected to rely more on clever tactics, ambushes, terrain and pre-made positions to win battles than their technology, The Air Militia used to suffer similarly however is undergoing a modernization as of 1947.

National Welfare

Robust Public healthcare, Public housing, Free Public Education. Much effort is put into making sure that the RPCU’s most vulnerable are well looked after and that no one goes without the necessities to live a dignified life.

Culture and History

Once part of the United Tuzhazan Federation, the RCPU was an agricultural region that as operating under what was essentially serfdom, Many attempts at uprisings were crushed brutally and totally by either the government or ruling class, leading to longtime disquiet among the peasant underclass. This reached breaking point during the Great War, as United Tuzhaz began losing territory and the people of Usraya were asked (well, more demanded) to give up more and more, until it finally boiled over in August of 1944, when the Battleship Erebus mutinied and opened fire at military positions from Andriopol harbour. While not the start of the fighting, this action served as a rallying cry that drove the people to complete revolution, overthrowing their colonial masters and forging their own path. 3 years of bloody fighting later and the RPCU found itself victorious, ready to rebuild and reforge a new future.

Modern Culture and Society

Following the revolutions successIn the latter part of 1946, the RPCU is undergoing a mass modernisation of its agricultural areas, to mechanise the once laborious task of farming and bring the RPCU up to a modern standard of living, the pre existing industrial base that exists in the cities has made this feat easier, this is bringing about a more comfortable and higher standard of living, and Radios and Televisions are becoming significantly more common in the RPCU.

Religion

Not officially enforced, but the overwhelming majority of the country is Atheist or Agnostic. Some religious holidays are still celebrated, albeit more as cultural traditions rather than actual religious ceremonies (think atheists celebrating Christmas).

Civil Struggles

In the years since the revolution, radical reforms have been made to bring about universal civil rights to all groups to remove much of the social inequality that existed prior to the revolution. The most significant civil struggle is that some people are struggling to keep up with the rapid social and economic progress, however this is assisted by some influential figures in the RPCU representing and being unafraid to out themselves as members of these formerly oppressed groups, for example, the RPCUs highest scoring ace from the Great War/Revolution and high-ranking Air Militia official Sofiya Solovjova is openly gay. Politically, the RPCU is surprisingly stable, as its policy of allowing former landowners and members of the "Bourgeoisie" were allowed to integrate into the RPCU's Communes assuming they followed the RPCU's policies and gave up their former ways, or, if they refused to integrate, were expelled from the country/killed/jailed if they tried to fight the RPCU.

Foreign Relations

The Commune tries to keep friendly relations with the nations of the world (with the exception of Fascist states), the commune is always however one of the first places to speak out when atrocities occur, and are ardently against the use of “inhumane weapons'' and atrocities, whoever commits them, Indeed numerous times the RPCU has called for international conferences to restrict or otherwise prevent the usage of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in armed conflict, along with adherence to international law, however this has so far fallen on deaf ears, much to the frustration of the Communes. The RPCU is also a member of the Tasharkan Pact alongside its socialist allies, believing in the need for the Socialist powers to stand united against the forces of reaction, especially with its worry regarding its eastern border.

Border Status

The border is complicated as the RPCU is not “officially” a country, however its existence is tolerated by its neighbours. The border regions are maintained largely by their mountainous terrain, however it is still protected by a network of radar stations, communications outposts and mountain troop detachments. There are still minor skirmishes with leftover forces from the revolution however these are minor.
