United Monarchy of Furoporanorè (UMF)

Very quick overview:

After the King of Baleari was overthrown, many new nations were born from the warmth of the cinders that remained. One nation that rose up were the once "seen as nothing but tributry" people of Furoporanore - the Phurupians. Historically a monarchist nation ruled by a Kugo (King) or Bailua (Queen), in reality a consitutional monarchist government runs the nation. In theory the current ruling party the "Papakalau" is a Social Democracy with some Liberal elements. In practice, as an electocracy, they remain constantly the sole leading party almost since the nation's birth, in which the Papakalau blame simply on the people wanting them. The democratic system is also "Liquid Democracy" which is written down in the consitution of Furoporanore, known as the "Book of the Path". The top positon in government is called the "Reader", the Reader of the ruling party is called "Ute Karigihi". The Deputy-Reader is a man called "Pateri Tankim". The current Kugo and Bailua are "Hetheru Shozure" and "Gawitsuri Shozure". In Furoporanore, the capital is called "Laoestr'i" the main political center of the nation. It is not however the largest city or economically or culturally either, these would go to "Rainpua" and "Kinohi". There is a reasonably large army kept at these 2 cities, however the main militery headquarters are located in the city of "Palapalaia". The country is organised into Mirarations (essentially states/prefectures) and futher down into townships (although cities get special status townships), the country historically has also been designated through a split between the Upperland and Lowerland areas. There are 15 Mirarations in Furoporanore with an average of 48 prefectures per one, more details will be in the map and lore document. Miraration 1 - Kepani, one of the largest constituents, featuring a string of islands as well as the nation's capital. It is a mostly prosperous area with a more conservative feel, many fishing and naval activites are focused here, as well as government. Miraration 2 - Inawaka, this area is a major defence and construction producer, with a large population, it also is one of the least suppotative areas of the government however. Miration 3 - Gannenn, a rocky and slightly mountainous land, here religion is a strong part of life. Miration 4 - Egaiimo, known for forests and lakes, it is a mostly natural area with fewer people. Miration 5 - Liliuo, a place of culture and many cultural things originate from this place. Miration 6 - Kalani, known for vibrant city life and a sense of trade - an economic center. Miration 7 - Hosaku, the breadbasket of Furoporanore, lots of fertile land. Miration 8 - Gabipo, has ruins of older civilisation and is home to some of the best night skies in the world, Miration 9 - Arira, a large medical central is located here, training doctors may want to study at Arira university. Miration 10 - Karagatankai, a famous torist destination with old buildings and the royal palace still being intact. Miration 11 - Masmurthur - Extremely ore rich, high value ore beds have been found and efforts are being made for extraction. Miration 12 - Tomuru, a poor area, many refugees have settled in the area, it is loyal to the government however. Miration 13 - Murahi'swai, another ecnomic hub, this area helps export the soft cultural power that Furoporanore has. Miration 14 - Ondakenran, another militerary heavy city, here lies the headquarters for this nation's army. Miration 15 - Kanaiya, Finally this constituent is known for scientific development best of all, with many famous Phurupians coming from here. Each Miration does not specalise in one thing, rather these are just general simplifications. The history of Furoporanore is to put extremely simply: Independent tribes sailed across the sea to set up their own kingdoms - there were original people who were mostly killed off or encorporated into these kingdoms. Eventually, after many times uniting and falling apart, one kingdom gains an upper hand with the help of the Northen nations. However, the get integreted into the Baleari kingdom - a contriversal topic as some liked it while others did not. On independence, the nation surprisingly came together without internal war, however politically they have not recovered. This nation's outlook to others is wanting to make friends, as presentation and portrayal of cultural soft power is important, however they are suspcious of their large southern neighbour and while not allied, do share a sense of companionship with their other ex-baleari nations. Now that is is the 20th century, Furoporanorè is looking to rebuild and create a beautiful and great nation that many others will look to fondly and remember as something that had a stake in the collective memory of the world, no matter what, standing the test of time.

Nation Name* Furoporanorè

The United Monarchy of Furoporanorè (UMF); commonly known as just Furoporanorè.

(The name Furoporanorè officially means along the lines of ‘The Searched’ or ‘The Path’)

National Language(s)* Furupian, Sparolian

Main Languages:

Furupian- (A conlang - Sounds like - a combination of Japanese, Polynesian languages (hawaiian, tahitian, maori etc), thai and australasian languages - filipino, aboriginal etc.) - Nearly 100% of the population speaks it. The language has evolved from Antique Furupiane (not to be confused with Old Furupianè), which is the predecessor language (similar to old english and english today). This language has a more Chinese/Thai feel to it.

Sparolian - The language of the northern land on the Balearian Isthmus above the original Furupian land. In the UMF, only around 25% of the population speak it, but it is very common in old Sparolian territory. (Sounds like - a combination of Arabic and Furupian.)

Furu-Caturan - A language spoken on the eastern fringes of the UMF and more commonly in the West of Catura. This language is VERY similar to Furupian, so many consider it a dialect rather than an independent language. However, there are some reasonable differences such as it using some Caturian words and the language sounding more like old Furupian. Only around 5% of the main nation speaks it.

Balearian - A language that sounds similar to Turkic languages - spoken more commonly and was a secondary language only a few decades ago. However, the use of it has slightly fallen, but a good 25% of the overall population speaks it (normally joint with either Furupian or Sparolian).

Other Significant Languages:

Old Furupianè (Saff) The language of the original inhabitants of the Furoporanorè area - known in their language as “Saff”. The language is completely different from Furupiane and is more of a mix between Turkish, Persian and Uzbekistani.) - Around 5% speak it.

Capital City* Laoestr'i

The capital city of Furoporanorè, Laoestr’i (also spelled Laoestri), is home to the main governmental house of the nation, and so lies the government and parliament building. Located in the Miration Kapani, it is an ancient city with routes to one of the first places of settlement by Furupians, the name is from Antique Furupiane - meaning along the lines of “Old City”. Laoestr’i, while not the largest city in the nation, is still famous across the land, and holds significant cultural impact. Built on the eastern shores of the nation, much land from the city has been reclaimed from the ocean.

The history of the city has been recorded to be the original landing point of the Furupians. The small settlement quickly grew with access to the sea, allowing for goods and materials to be shipped through it. It served as a strong outpost against the Laoestri siege of 1256, against the final original population rebellion. Finally, it has grown to be the 3rd largest city in the country, with many famous landmarks and a strong diplomatic presence and the lead showpiece of Phurupian culture. Some famous landmarks include: Ex-Colonial Balearian Castle Complex (1872), Old Government Building (circa 1650) and the Antique-Furo Military Fort Museum (1282).

There are many iconic buildings in Laoestri, as the city itself features a distinctive architecture style. Many non-home buildings feature a mid-century modern style as detailed in these pictures, many buildings are often likened to be akin to waves:

These types of buildings are not found elsewhere in Furoporanorè, giving a unique atmosphere to the city. The most famous example of this would be the “Grand Hangar” building (the main headquarters of the air force) itself, often nicknamed “The Steel Dove” 8 There are many more typical homes and buildings in Furoporanorè, that you can find elsewhere in the nation and typically in Atera 1948. Civilian Home generally look like this and across the country →

However, another famous building - the house of Parliament (known locally as Umiyoku), is a fusion of the traditional architecture and the more modern, giving a sense of closeness with civilians (up to debate by many.).

The final major landmark and largest is the “Umikei” or in english Sunith-Waterscape, a large built-up reclaimed land area. Started as a massive government project, this area is a well developed man made peninsula, going into the sea. After slight water levels rising, this decision was one of the first projects that the new country of Furoporanore undertook, and so it is a grand hallmark of their nation. It is home to many points of interest such as shops, homes, hotels. Entertainment, parks and more. It is built-up but opens to a beach and the sea.

The demographics of the capital are around:

84% proclaimed Phurupians.

16% others

The economy of Laoestri’i, mostly revolves around diplomacy, foreign investment and shipping goods, more will be touched on this elsewhere. Various news channels such as the largest one “FBC System'' operate from the capital as their main base. Many newspapers are also printed here such as “The Royal Times”, it is the main news location of the nation. Tourism also makes up a small part of the economy generated here too, many visitors using the “Steel Dove - Civilian Terminal”, as their gateway into the nation.

The city’s transport system uses a mixture of trams and buses. An underground is currently being built, but it is not yet near completion, and there are funding issues from the government. However, it is progressing better than most other cities. Trains connect to the central and seaside stations. There is also a northern smaller station but that is normally regarded as an “on-the-way” station. Of course there is also the Civilian Terminal for incoming flights, located at “The Steel Dove”. Another smaller airport exists, although this one is shared with shipment of goods and so is used more rarely. Plans for a third airport are currently up in the air. ;D

Regarding education, there are around 180 primary schools and 100 secondary schools in the capital. There are also 4 universities. The largest, most famous and prestigious one is the “Laolestri University of Law and Governance” - the major university of all things law and politics. The “Furoporanorè University (TFU), is a general university that is relatively well regarded, many good scientists and engineers originate from it. The “Umikei Institute for Art and Culture” is a smaller university that is the newest. Highly sought after, many Phuripians want to join. Despite the name, the university offers many various Business degrees as well. Finally the - “Phurupian Medical School” is a medium sized university for doctors and people getting into medicine, it is sadly underfunded. There is also a military university, however this is part of the military structure and is separate (see military section) from the general educational places of the capital.

The culture of the city is that of Furoporanorè, but with a more international flair to it. While not a city many immigrants go to due to it being very expensive to live in, many rich people from overseas make their holiday homes and visit here. The government also increases the culture here, giving the capital an air of importance and lawfulness. Finally, the Grand Hangar lies in the city as well, with some Air-Force culture spilling into it. However, something important to note: the Grand Hangar “Steel Dove” and its surrounding area is technically designated as its own “city” similarly to how the Vatican is in Rome (in this case its the same country however). This area is home to a slightly different culture of that in Laoestr’i, being heavily influenced by the people working in the air sector, and their families. This place has close links however to both the government and monarchy. Talking about the monarchy - the capital is actually not home to them, however they do have a residential palace of it, built in the “old section” of the City. The religion is predominantly the Main Phurupian religion - [INSERT RELIGION HERE].

After the “Great Wave” of 1759, the city has looked into securing its defenses against flooding. Many new technologies have been implemented to stop floods, rogue waves and even generate hydro-electricty.

National Population* 9,844,065

(race chart defined on census - many people may define themselves as Phurupian despite not being ethnically Phurupian e.g., the original people of Furoporanorè.)

The large younger population in Furoporanorè lends itself to the sudden modernisation of the country and its relatively recent independence.

Phurupians

Phurupian is both a cultural and ethnic race. Many non-ethnic Phurupians can declare themselves so without much of a fuss, this stems from the overseas culture ingrained in the culture of the nation, and how the country was able to grow after assimilating the native population into their culture.

Ethnic Phurupians have a diverse amount of appearances. Their skin colour can range from relatively dark tan (think Taihitian/Hawwian) to East Asian light (similar to lighter skinned Japanese and Chinese). A uniting characteristic however, would be most have very dark brown or black hair. This is also similar with eye colour, although more variation can naturally occur..

Ethnic Phurupian Example Collage: (Credit to all the random people images online…):

Mixed

There are many people who identify as not quite Phurupian but instead a mixed race of people. The most common mixed race group is the Phurupian and White population due to their size and proximity, Balearins are included in this group as well, due to the proximity of the nations and past history. Some older folks in the nation may disagree with this, however as younger people come in, it's becoming more widely accepted. The Reader of the Nation - Ute, is a mixed race person, placing importance on this defined group in the nation. Many mixed people define themselves as joint with Phurupian.

Balearian

Balearians have a mixed reception. Some people truly love them for modernising the country and bringing them new ideas in a stagnant time. However, others think Balearian’s are all evil warmongers, who once conquered this nation. The majority of people however, have a more nuanced, balanced approach, taking into consideration both the good and evils. The people are treated normally with respect, however they have been targeted by more radical groups. Their complexion is of looking “”Turkic”” if giving a real life equivalent, a look quite different from ethnic Phurupians.

Sparolians

Sparolians find themselves in a peculiar situation, finding their country vanishing overnight, and the Furupians moving in in ‘57 after the country fell into anarchy. This has caused a whole range of mixed emotions. Some resent the Furupians for seemingly “stealing” their land when they were at their lowest. While others are happy they are part of a stable wealthier nation. Sparolians overall were widely accepted in the political environment as “full Furupian citizens”. Many however speculate this was just to avoid any uprising or political tension, as for in reality the parliament tends to neglect this area when addressing the nation. On a social level however, opinions are mixed. Surprisingly, many are accepting of Sparolians as long as they say they are Furupian (as well as Sparolian if they want to), while more hardliners do not want to treat them equally. As for looks, they lack the east asian characteristics but instead have more of a tanned/olive skin complexion of the Middle East/North Africa comparably in real life.

Immigrants and Refugees

With a relatively stable, laid back nation like that of Furoporanorè, many people from other nations come to live or seek shelter. By far the largest population of these are white/caucasian population.  (Note: The term “white” here is used very loosely, I would prefer to use real country names however, I don’t know which countries have which races so I will stick to this.) They tend to simultaneously bring their own cultures as well as integrate and join the Furupian one. Typically, their reputation fluctuates. However, overall they are seen as useful for the economy and hardworking. Furthermore, many useful ideas/inventions have come from these people, with them predominantly taking up scientific jobs - this is useful after Furoporanorè has not had as much international discourse as other nations. Other overseas people tend to be in smaller amounts and normally stick together in certain cities/areas, bringing their culture.

Finally, there are other small groups of people which are worth mentioning -  Jea’Noccianan people, a small population of Caucasus people (mostly Porna-Nobo) on the eastern border, an Australis population, normally on business/construction contracts and finally Adamladiens - normally working in international corporations and facilitating trade and relations.

Government Type/Structure* Constitutional Market Social Liquid Electocratic Monarchy (yes I know that sounds like a bunch of words thrown together - but time to explain!)

History of Government

The nation of Furoporanorè has a rich and complex political history. When the Phurupians tribes originally arrived to the land, they were governed by small tight knit families, with a tribe leader (or Matai) to guide them. However, while the tribes disagreed with each other, they shared a common goal by which they worked together on - settling and taking over the ancient Furoporanorè. However due to this temporary alliance, it allowed the largest and most powerful tribe - The Aomasu. In the wars of unification in the 1400s, the Aomasu tribe came on top, securing themselves as the sole leading government in the nation. This tribe would eventually become the monarchy you see today. The Shozure, royal family stems from a family dynasty going back to the 1600s, where they changed the “Aomasu” surname to their current one. The royalty ruled the nation as a semi-total monarchy up until its conquest and integration by Baelari.

However, since the very beginnings of the nation, there have always been glimpses and even precursors of democracy and government, rooted in the very nation. The earliest tribes had councils, each governed by a family. These people had a say in many activities, limiting the total power of the Matai guiding them. Furthermore, many early Phurupians did not even pay attention to these tribe councils, preferring to do their own thing.

When the Aomasu tribe had control of the entire land of modern day Furoporanorè, they had to find a way to appease the population, to gain control and make sure nobody rebelled. Two things that helped shape democracy occurred under this early rule. First was the creation of the “Lawspeakers” who were essentially people employed by the royal house to spread the rule of law and govern on a smaller less centralised scale, this meant smaller community government assemblies popped up, while loyal to the king, had their own say in local matters. The second thing was the creation of “free traders”. Being at a pivotal place in the world, and as a traditionally seafaring nation, many Phurupian traders took up work in the nation. This created an extremely powerful secondary force apart from the monarchy. The traders created their own oligarch assemblies and councils, to discuss trade and guild-based laws.     - Boats traders would use.

These combined allowed for relative local autonomy for many years. However, in the 1700s, corruption and issues in the traders alliance cause them to split, with many falling into piracy - creating the Lux criminal gang. The remaining members who opposed this, joined together creating the group known as Eillenle - which today is the main opposing government to the Papakalau (the leading group). Because of all of the ongoing issues, in the early 1600s, the monarchy cracked down upon any autonomy, becoming less tolerant of democracy. This was known as the “total-monarchic” or “controlled” ages; it lasted until the Balearian conquest. However meanwhile, in the early 1800s, the Eillenle, now a radical group seeking change and democracy from the royals, drafted an underground constitution named the Wyixi (old Phurupian for “Balance”), this would set the foundations for “The Book of the Path” - the main constitution of Furoporanorè.

During the times as part of greater Baleari, the nation’s monarchy acted as a vessel within the empire. They had mostly their powers taken, instead acting as a local cultural government. While unhappy about this, many people were secretly pleased at this aspect at least, as their monarchy had shown signs of weakness. Instead, Baleari governors were put in place to govern.

After the breakup of Baleari, an interim government was put in place by the recovering monarchy. Because of the turbulent times, they wanted to choose one that was both popular and good for the nation. While ruled by Baleari, the Papakalau, started growing, from a group of monarchist reformers and advisors, seeking to advocate for a better monarchy that won’t destablise the nation (they partly achieved this by the end of Baleari rule, due to the monarchy gaining support once again due to the seemingly worse alternative Baleari). By the time of independence, they were seen as fit to be the rulers by the general population (who took a liking to a group of Phurupians finally taking action), and the Papakalau promised fair elections. The Eillenle had grown much weaker after being found as anti-Balearian during these times. The Ue’Chanapsu (meaning government) had finally been created.

At the start, their rule had mixed reception. Some people thought they were merely ex-Balearian puppets, supported by a sympathetic monarchy, however as time went on, using market-social theory and economics that supported the general population, they had gained general trust. However, many Eillenle did not see this as a positive, especially due to the Papakalau seemingly happy with them being the sole leader, their current support base lies within the military and their political alignment is market liberalism with less social policies and a harsher military outlook.  The current government, officially advocates for democracy - however elections are limited and set up in ways that allow for constant rule by the Papakalau. While good for the transitioning government, many wonder whether it is time to move on, and form a truly democratic Furoporanorè.

The Government Today

The Papakalau, describe themselves as a social democracy, although relatively a market one. Many of their policies reflect this, as part of an effort to increase stability after independence. To this day they have kept their policies up, not because of stabilisation but rather most people have grown used to it. (Note - the social democracy that this nation uses is not that related anywhere near the Marxist or Communist spectrum - revolution is extremely frowned upon). As a market social democracy some key areas/policies that the government do explained simply are:

An implementation of a welfare state - meaning higher taxes on both people and corporations, provision of education, health services and housing, distribution of (some) money and provisions to prevent poverty.

Various industries are nationalised such as transportation, healthcare, housing and education.

A mixed economy with partial public ownership and the right to work.

When the monarchy accepted the constitution that was “The Book of the Path” on independence of the nation, they became relatively obsolete, making them constitutional monarchs for the Papakalau.

Politicians also classify the nation as a “liquid social democracy”. Liquid democracy is essentially a direct democracy where participants have to vote and have a say, not just in elections every few years. However, the degree this is carried out in the nation is very flawed. Leading to its final descriptor of “electoracy” - electocracies are almost the opposite of liquid democracies in that citizens can participate in electing their government but cannot directly partake in governmental decision making. How does this contradiction occur then? It is all about scope. On a smaller scale the government manages local communities and areas of cities by having local governors or “Wèn”, who are directly elected by the people as part of a liquid democratic process. However, it is up to the government to have a final say in these elections (there is relative cohesion between people and government though, so little issues occur unless in highly opposition areas). However, higher up decisions and proper Miration, City and cabinet/parliament governors are directly part of the Papakalau party.

The nation is sometimes described as a “one-party” nation due to the Papakalau being in government since independence, this is due to both democratic backsliding but also predominantly, that the people like government, and believe they have helped achieve peace, prosperity and protection. However at the same time, many are upset that the system is not truly democratic, leading to overall mixed feelings on the current government.

How does the Government work - basics

The Furoporanorè government’s specifics are best described with a real life example. It has a governmental system similar to that of the “Westminster System”. The “Reader” is the equivalent of a Prime Minister, the Reader’s job is to oversee the decisions of the government, the prime minister can choose members of the government, oversee the civil service and military forces as commander-in-chief and dissolve parliament. The parliamentary system revolves around the lower house called the ‘House of Representatives'  and the upper house simply named “The Upper House” or in Furupian - “Whare O Runga”.

The House of Representatives holds 475 seats (people are thinking of increasing), below is a graph of the seats and the political parties that hold them:

Legend

Papakalau - 340 Seats + speaker (purple)

Eillenle - 72 Seats (orange)

The Sky's Limit Party - 24 Seats (blue)

The Baleari Unification Party (BUP) - 10 Seats (red)

Ata-Matai - 15 Seats (yellow)

The Ro'arka Party - 5 Seats (grey)

Economic System* Mixed Economy

Describe the economic system your nation employs, as well as any economic limitations & freedoms that are legally employed internally by your nations government. Examples include limitations on monopolies, insider trading, free markets, etc. This information will help us understand the economic foundation of your nation in order to form & guide interactions with other nations.

The economic history and current climate of Furoporanorè is rich and complex and so I shall keep it relatively brief. The nation has a high standard of living with a mixed economy and state ownership in some key areas such as mineral rights, energy and (partly) health+science. As a social democracy, Furoporanorè is a highly taxed country, with value added taxes on most things being common. Unions are relatively rare however, due to most businesses being expected to treat employees well or get called out and lose reputation (face). However, a few corporations can abuse this, knowing that strikes are relatively looked down upon. Poverty and homelessness is seen quite negatively in the nation. Many people are willing to pay for the removal of homeless people from their streets even if that means giving enough money to supply them with a house and education, the general feeling of sympathy however is not too high among general people. The poor may take out of the nation’s “Welfare Insurance Bank” - essentially a national fund of money to help people. However, to allow this, citizens must first prove that they have a job. The nation overall has a considerably good work ethic although efficiency rates are relatively low compared to economically similar countries, with more work being needed for the same outcomes. Social mobility is quite low in the nation, although there is hardly a distinction between lower and middle class culture. Women in the workplace are typically lower than men, although physical jobs in Phurupian culture are normally shared equally, while the academic jobs are mostly male dominated.

The unemployment rate is currently: 3.7%

National debt levels stand at: 55% of GDP

Inflation Percentage: 6%

Poverty Levels: 13.3%

However despite many internal social policies, there is also a huge and bustling market economy made up of many sectors.

Export Goods:

Agricultural Products and Foodstuffs: 23.41%

Fuels and Mining Products: 18%

Aircraft parts and manufacturing: 20%

Cultural Exports: 38.59%

Mining

The mining industry in Furoporanorè is relatively large, with precious resources lying beneath the nation. Much of the mining industry is concentrated in the hills of the nation. While a large industry, there is little talk about it, mostly due to the Government having a monopoly on this industry, with Furoporanorè’s largest nationally owned mining company - Furoporanorè-Balerian Mining Corporation (FBMC).

Manufacturing

Regarding manufacturing, the Furupian automotive industry is almost non-existent. There is a small naval manufacturing industry, however it is mostly government owned and only just beginning to take off. However, where Furupian manufacturing truly shines is within the Aerospace Industry. A large proportion of exports and internal jobs are supplied by the nation’s largest company specalising in this area - “Neu-Resource Limited”. Neu-Resource is a non-government company, which produces both civilian and military aviation equipment, especially that of planes. They manufacture other things as well such as creating metals, constructing buildings and processing oil - they are a large conglomerate that the government likes to keep around. Because of their importance, they easily get away with tax minimisation. Many commercial and military planes would have parts or whole units produced by this company, with it being relatively known abroad.

Agriculture

Agriculture and food is a well regarded industry in Furoporanorè, with its food cuisine being a major cultural export. Lots of spices are grown in the warm climate of Furoporanorè, and so spices such as cinnamon and vanilla are widely sought after by other nations. Fruits are also commonplace in agriculture. Finally, rice is also a major export. Many smaller companies supported by the government tend to manage these. Meat and dairy are rarer in the agriculture sector, with a higher demand for it being imported.

Finance
The Financial sector despite the social structure of the government is very popular, and seen as a respectable job. However, it is normally at ends with the government, trying to find ways to increase business, even if it increases risk - something looked down upon by the comfort-seeking government. The main bank - “The central bank of Furoporanorè” is owned by the government, however there are a few other non-national banks (“Palm Banks”, “Nationwide Opal”, “Sea-Wolf Banking”).

Tourism

Furoporanorè as a nation is looked upon warmly as a place with both beautiful nature and friendly people. Because of this, tourism is booming, with 5-8 million people visiting per year, there are always people visiting. Because of this, tourism makes up a huge sector of the economy. Tourists visit a variety of destinations, be it for cultural experiences, the city of Kinohi, or excitement filled adventures - Rainpua. Many furthermore like visiting the beaches (to local annoyance) or the beautiful hills.

Creativity and Culture

Perhaps the greatest thing Furoporanorè is known for is not its food, tourism or aerospace industry despite all being significant, but instead their cultural exportation. Music, literature, artwork, television/movies, many many beloved franchises and stories have come from Furoporanorè, naming it to many “The Nation of Stories”. This has a basis in the nation’s old literary history , with many stories being passed down through the “l(ore)awspeakers”. Many people abroad buy up products marked with “Made in Furoporanorè” knowing it will be high quality. The eye and love of artwork is prevalent throughout the society and its honouric structure. Many entertainment and art businesses are regarded highly, and compete overseas for the greatest audience.

Media

Expanding on this, its not just artwork but much entertainment is also created here. Many famous actors and singers come from the nation. A new industry that is rapidly expanding is the animation industry. While not invented in the nation, many people take it more seriously than established animation (which tends to be comedic or fantasy), with much animation being more grounded. More information will be explained later about specific artists, songs, shows, movies and more. Media takes up a large chunk of cultural exports.

Education

Due to the nature of the government, all schools are funded by the nation. There is no such thing as a private school, however there are alternative institutions for nobility across the nation. However, these schools are more about status than wealth. Education sadly is lacking across many schools, with teachers needing to be imported into the nation from overseas due to a shortage. Education does not take up too much of the economy, but it is seen as important.

Trade and Investments

Furoporanorè makes many trade and investments from nations far and close. The government also makes investments into companies they see as “beneficial to the nation”, as well as their own owned ones. An ever-expanding trade list is below:

Trade with Adamlaide Auto Engine Corporation (AAEC) - supply automobile industry supplies (cars, vans, land transport etc).

Trade with DOVE industries - supply weaponry and transport

Trade with Starlight Industries - supply licences for Neu-Resource national production.

Major Companies and Monopolies

A list of major companies and what they do is below:

(More shall be added over time - many businesses are growing rapidly across Furoporanorè, because of independence the market is ripe for opportunity… We will see who makes it into this list…)

Government Centralization

The government overall is not too centralised, with much politics that affect citizens, happening at a local level. Many important and national laws tend to be nationwide however. Local regions despite allowing for local governance, are much less independent than say states in the USA. Each Miration has both a regional governor, they will be elected by the people through MMP voting (Mixed Member Proportional) - preferential voting open list (for regional) and a governmental representative closed list FPTP (for government) . Here people can vote for both the political party of the main government and a regional representative. The minimum electoral threshold for governmental positions is odd, rather than a percentage - the constitution states that there should be at least 7 parties for “diversity of democracy”, because of this, the first 7 most popular parties are in government. Mirations are split into smaller “prefectures” that each have their own local government including regional governor and single parliament representative. The parliament representative however has power over the prefecture government. To allow for cohesion, many cultural and political laws are adopted nationwide, but it is the smaller laws such as, budget, construction and taxation that is carried out by the local governments.

All citizens voting age (15+), can vote in both regional and national bills and elections. At any time the government can enforce laws and override regional government laws as need be.

Each Miration has a “middle government” which is made up of each Miration reader from each prefecture, while a part of parliament, they spend most of their time in the Miration Capitol, here they govern regional governors and help draft bills for discussion in the main parliament. This is different than a nationally elected Reader (kind of similar to the Welsh legal system). A simple graph below explains this:

Cohesion and working together is seen as important in the nation, this influences how well local communities respect and listen to the government, it is however expected that this is returned both ways. Local governments are almost always non-politcally aligned and prefer regional alignment - however people still have their preferences, making these more democratic smaller governments relatively inefficient. The government has its own force of civil servants, it is up to local governments to get their own. Some local governments have tended to be rather corrupt compared to the national one, taking money from large companies for example.

All of this political structure has stemmed from the original balance of power between King and family councils. The royal family’s role is to undertake official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational roles. Their main job is to increase Furoporanorè’s soft power overseas, however they also have the final say in appointing laws (precedent is to always say yes to a law) and are the main source of appointing people in the upper house.

Government Cohesion

The current state of the Government is a complicated one. Papakalau has tight control over the government, using defamation lawsuits to bankrupt opponents, ballot tampering, multiple voting and other scare tactics. Most of their activity is purposely ignored by the population, who see them as a necessary evil to ensure being a clean, less-corrupt nation (although corruption still happens). Critics of the government are normally frowned upon and can get prosecuted by the “Protestors Act 1945”. The government allows Miration governments, in order to ease the strain on trying to keep power, and allow for a feeling of democracy, however these regional ones are still tightly monitored.

So how would a typical law be passed in government?

National level:

The House of Representatives is by far the most powerful house with laws getting created as a bill from either the government member or an individual reader. It can start in either house however. It will pass through both houses, with amendments being made when necessary. The King/Queen has the final say in it however - it is almost identical to how the UK passes a law, but with the exception of directly voted Readers must only participate in the “committee of the whole house”.

Local level:

On a regional prefecture government, there is no 2 house system, but instead there is a “main government” acting like a small version of the house of representatives, and then the “Prefecture Reader” who acts as the Upper House - but instead one person. The process from then on is the same as passing a national law.

If there are issues within government, the regional governor leaders may be able to dissolve government, but EVERY single regional governor must vote in confidence for this. Regional governors can also vote and direct civilian votes for Miration Readers as well. Each civilian who does not vote gives another vote for the regional governor, meaning there is an almost one-to-one relationship between the two. However, it is parliament who can dismiss somebody if a regional governor sways the vote too much. Miration governors and regional ones sometimes compete about trying to get the population to vote or not.

Miration Map of Furoporanorè (islands part of Kepani):

Terrain and Climate Map of Furoporanorè (please note that not every forest, hill or river has been detailed - only the important/major ones)

The terrain and climate of Furoporanorè is quite varied, leading to a nation with a myriad of regional cultures, despite the nation’s unity, each adapted to their environment. The south while being the most populous region, is also that of a rainforest climate. A long beach straddles the whole coast, where the water is warm and the sand is golden and silky. Here the coastline is exposed to the elements of the sea. This has had some effects on this region, specifically that of natural disasters. Occasional flooding, hurricanes and tsunamis have battered the coast, leading to the area typically not industrialising until the Balearian occupation. The people of Furoporanorè have been clever however, and have developed advanced buildings, floodgates and early warning outposts situated on the southern Torishanku islands. The south eastern part of the nation underneath Liliou resides a massive coral reef - perhaps one of the largest in the world. This reef, has blocked many storms and tsunamis, giving this region the old center of Furoporanorè. The Torishanku islands are also tropical with lush beaches and small outcrops of rainforest. Much rainforest has been cleared in the very south of Furoporanorè, leading to some outcry by civilians. Out of the 4 rivers from west to east (Aukui, Fufura, Zanahari, Altejirama), Aukui is the largest, with the capital being built across it. The coastline is very shallow with little cliffs or raised areas except in the very north of the shore. The weather is said to help with growing tropical foods and increase tourism. However, on the downside it can make people sleepy, leading to less production in this area than other parts of the country. Seasons don’t exist here as it falls into the rainy-season/dry-season dichotomy here.

Average Rainfall - 800-1400 Milimeters of precipitation per year

Average Temperature: Daylight 30 degrees all year around, Night 24 degrees all year around.

In the North-West we have the tropical monsoon climate of Inawaka. Slightly different than the rainforest one, it frequently rains here, with storms hitting this climate region the hardest. A small river from inside the isthmus runs across this area. There is a small forest in the middle of this region as well. However, efforts to protect it have been little, and many industries are being built across the area. The harsher weather has made the people here more tough overall. Plants and food that can thrive in rainy environments grow here, and much industry has moved to this region too. Seasons don’t exist here, falling into either rainy or dry season.

Average Rainfall - 1200 - 4800 mm per year

Average Temperature: 32-38 degrees all year.

North of the tropical coast in the middle-west we have the Furoporanorè hills. Here is a very forested and raised area, featuring sprawling trees and hills. It is much cooler under the shade, and the forests are not rainforests, however it is still warm, especially in summers. Towards the north of these regions, the hills start turning into mountains - marking the start of the largest mountain range in Furoporanorè (Kotaroma) - where in winter, snow occasionally falls at the very, very peak. This land is home to many interesting wildlife such as kookaburras, bandicoots, carpet pythons, brown tree frogs and heath monitors. and is an overall pleasant area to live in. Animal rearing tends to come from this area. The land is known for its natural beauty as well. Seasons can be felt here.

Average Rainfall - 600- 1000 mm per year

Average Temperature: 28 summer, 12-15 winter.

In the south east, lies a large expanse of a less tropical land. It is much drier with large expanses of chalky, rocky land. This is caused by the mountains cutting off moisture creating an eastern pocket of drier land, connected to the Caucus nation. Under a large expanse of sky, the culture here tends to have more wild people, who are said to be more reckless and outspoken - however they can make very trustworthy friends. The plain-spokenness of this land has attracted much military favour, and because of the open skies, it tends to be a place for military training and testing, while also having the headquarters focused here. Animals are also raised here with less crops being grown. A bunch of lakes also scatter across this area, with populations centered near and around them. The river -  flows and splits through it as well, leading to an appreciation of water by the people, especially due to the drier climate. Being on the border of the neighboring nation, it is highly guarded here, compared to the northern climate zones which have less people and more immigrants moving through.

Average Rainfall - 25-250 mm per year

Average Temperature: 10 winter (can get to 0), 25-35 summer.

In the center of the nation, stretching across the Kotaroma mountain range lies the next climate zone. Marked by little rain and cool weather, this land is known for its barren beauty. Featuring one of the nation’s dormant volcanoes - Mt Aoraetoa, it separates the middle and north of the nation, as well as the gateway into “old Furoporanorè”. Many tourists like hiking in these mountains, and there are large mining operations happening as well. The population is medium. In the east of this zone, the koppen climate changes despite it all being bundled under “subtropical highland” to a “warm” subtropical highland. Here there is much more vegetation and growth, with many fields of rice being situated here, because of the temperature. The mountain ranges turn into gentle hills here as well. A natural wonder of Furoporanorè resides here - the sky mirror plateau.

Trees also cover many of the mountains as well. Efforts are being made to bridge the north and south together because of this mountain range that separates them. In order to survive, cooperation has been ingrained within the nation however - it is also home to much religious fervor, perhaps due to the harsher climate.

Average Rainfall - 25-345 mm per year

Average Temperature - Constant temperature in the west of around 10-15. East fluctuates between 20-32.

West (picture of the famous sky mirror plateau (a very shallow water plain):

East:

In the very north of the nation, the land becomes mostly flat again, apart from in the north east where there are gentle hills leading up to a smaller mountain range. Here, summers are typically long and humid, with thunderstorms being commonplace. Seasonal temperatures vary however and it can get as low as 5 degrees in some parts of the north. Here notably has both the best soil and largest concentration of ancient Phurupian tradition. However, the land is still very much part of Furoporanorè. Having the largest northern population, the land is a mostly comfortable place to live in. Interesting plants and fauna live here as well, such as carnivorous plants and slightly more dangerous animals such as crocodiles and snakes. Monsoons also tend to get concentrated in this area, with many homes having special protection against it. A large number of refugees have also tended to settle in this area due to its proximity and nature of place. People here tend to trust the government a bit less. There is an active volcano in the north, however it has been relatively stable. Furthermore, center of the north lies the largest lake in the nation - Lake Benshigol.

Average Rainfall - 26-500 mm per year

Average Temperature: 25-30 annually. Slightly, slightly cooler in winter but seasonal difference is rare.

Furoporanorè has a tiny bit of semi-arid climate in the north east. Being home to almost desert-like area, it is extremely dry and arid. However, this has not stopped interesting wildlife, cacti and beautiful skies from being major highlights of the area. It is a relatively poorer area, with the smallest population out of any climate area. Slightly nomadic people live in this area, traveling by gliding down from the northern arid hills. There are also two volcanoes in this area. The northern one is dormant, while the southern one - Mt Kaihaukazan is active with many recent eruptions and explosions, causing natural disaster damage to the surrounding area, but also providing extremely fertile soil in the east’s west.

Average Rainfall - 5-25 mm per year

Average Temperature: 18-40

Finally, we have the Marine climate right in the east. An extremely livable climate featuring both a slightly hilly south and a mountainous north, this land is quite sought after. However, it is also the only place in the nation prone to earthquakes, making living here a slight risk. The population has remained relatively small, with lots of land being designated as national parks. However, lots of minerals and ores are mined in the mountains, leading to protests about ruining the natural beauty. The climate here is temperate with moderate rainfall. Being on the border to the nation, it is watched closely by the military. Rare rocks and plants are also found here, although the amount of animals tends to be smaller. The south is easier traversed, leading to what is known as the “corridor into Furoporanorè”.

Average Rainfall - 600-1200 mm per year

Average Temperature: 10-20

Overall, Furoporanorè’s climate is said to be warm-tropical with a real life comparison being Australia made of, both tropical, arid and temperate mountainous zones.

Because of its modernity, it has little that it is known for currently, apart from being on the very edge of the border between the main Phurupian land and Sparolian traditional borders. Its swampy surroundings have not attracted a large population, but the housing here is very cheap, and it is a common spot for truckers, transport and other vehicles as a large stopover point, with little civilisation surrounding it.

Garri’redo

Population: 2,829,418

Description: A large city in the desert, this is the largest city in old Sparola. It is known for its luscious dancing, exquisite perfumes and many more sensual things. Major Ports/Harbors* 4 major harbors, 5 major airports

There are 4 major harbours:

1.Situated in Kikosoali, much heavy industrial equipment is shipped through here. Heavy goods is typically this port's specialty. This is both a civilian and military harbour. There are sufficient docking facilities for large naval ships, but storage is slightly smaller, mostly due to goods being quickly transported around the nation from here. There are roads and railways heading both eastwards across the coastline population strip and north through Lalapekelo.

2. Situated in Finidaya, lighter produce is shipped here, normally luxury goods. It is not a military port. It however helps create economic stimulation in the otherwise poorer west. Goods can be taken by both vehicle and rail from Finidaya, normally going into the North-West. The port also has large storage capacities for city growth.

3. Situated in Laoestr’i, this port is both civilian and military. Having a mix of many products, this is the busiest port in the nation. Much food and humanitarian imports arrive into this port. The storage capacity is high, and due to it being the capital, it greatly improves economic stimulation and governmental influence across the nation, as this city ships off much of its goods in all directions by rail, lorry and air.

4. Situated in Ampafuni, the shipment here is almost all military exclusive. Weapons, vehicle parts and more tend to arrive here. It is then shipped off to various military institutions by boat or plane. This does not help the Ampafuni economy too much to the annoyance of locals.

There are 5 major airports:

1. Situated in Laoestr’i, the largest airport is both a military and civilian one, with goods being shipped in by air, allowed and encouraged. With high capabilities, it is a large source of overseas exports and imports. The airforce also helps expand it as well, due to it being part military port as well.

2. Situated in Tuawethayi, this airport is the newest one in the nation. As part of an effort to connect the north and west to economic stimulation, this airport was built in a modern city. Being only civilian and trade, it has been very successful with economic stimulation into the surrounding area. The city however, despite its growth, finds handling this rather difficult, and so it must catch up with the sudden expansion.

3. Situated in Rainpua, this airport is medium size. With difficulties shipping in goods due to the reef acting as a barrier, the city gets lots of its produce from the air, making it a vital component of the city. Many goods that arrive in the city, stay in it, due to Rainpua’s size.

4. Situated in Yarrugaki, this is the second largest airport in the nation, however not by use but size. As an ambitious link, this airport is one of the nicest in the country. It also has a separate military section, acting as a pathway into the northern plains without having to transport across the mountains that run through the nation.

5. Situated in Kinohi, this airport is one built completely by one company - Neu-Resource.  This airport primarily does military shipments, with routes close to Ondakenran, but there is a small but growing civilian use of it as well. It is one of the many generators of income at Kinohi, with flights and imports/exports being cheaper than any other port.

National Resources & Economic Produce* Mostly export focuses nation

Furoporanorè’s energy make up is:

20% HydroAeroelectricity

40% Coal

25% Oil

15% Gas

This wide mix is indicative of the government’s control over resources, wanting a good spread so the nation does not become too dependent on one. The availability of these resources however is reflected in the use of it. Coal and Gas however are seen by some scientists as having a limited amount in the nation, a total amount however is unknown as new supplies are still found.

Minerals that are mined are mostly (makes up around 35% GDP):

Aluminium

Copper

Gold

Iron

Lead

Magnesium

Nickel

Tin

Titanium

Zinc

Rare Minerals:

Economic Boons* Economic status: Good

After the independence of Furoporanorè, many people were unsure whether people would want to trade with this newly rejuvenated nation. However, worries were quickly put aside as the nation rebuilt with a new national vigour. Furoporanorè has been known ever since discovery by the overseas nations, a place of great weather, culture and beautiful landscape and people, if not a bit behind compared to other nations. However, modernisation has always been in the minds of many, seeing it as an important part of society.

Partly the efforts of the Balearian kingdom and partly the people, modernisation occurred in the last past 60 years of the nation. Because of this, the nation became able to export some of that Furupian sun to other places, and allow an easier passage for tourists arriving at the nation. Entertainment is perhaps the largest export of Furoporanorè, rivalling that of much larger nations. Home technology such as televisions, radios and house appliances are a growing industry as well, with companies such as Neu-Resource, driving the modernisation of the country forward with first world amenities. There are many government incentives for companies to help both modernise and expand the influence of the nation, such as lower taxes in a highly taxed environment. Unemployment is low. The market conditions are the best they have been yet, with a young workforce ready, and an economic landscape mostly focused in key areas, the nation can clearly see its road ahead. More is explained in previous sections as well.

Some overseas exports that are popular are:

Books

Movies

TV Shows

Animation

National Cuisine

Music/Songs

Artwork (jewellery, potter, paintings etc).

National Economic Struggles*

There are of course national economic struggles that the nation also faces. A large one is that of debt - which is very high for a nation of its size. This is due to the government's economic policies which tend to not compromise on things, for the better or worse. Furthermore, productivity levels are relatively low across the nation as well. This has an impact on some growth. Income inequaility is normally low, but when there is an inequality, it is normally an extreme amount - with many wealthy Phurupians, being extremely rich and clearly a different social class than any average person. Ongoing plans to avoid economic struggles, involve using the welfare state and social systems in place. Many Phurupians are also charitable and helping somebody in need is seen as honourable. The level that the nation can hold up its social welfare scheme however is in debate, with many citing that the government is backsliding some of these reforms, to the joy of social democracy doubters and upset to those who like the system, some level of social welfare has normally been maintained through in Furoporanorè. As the nation is not in a bubble, outside help and economic reliance from neighbours and overseas nations are needed - which Furoporanorè struggles a bit to get despite its popularity due to being a smaller nation at the moment.

National Technology Level* comparable to 1950s Australia economically - innovatively similar to Japan

Furoporanorè’s technological level has been driven through cooperation and wanting to have a better place. One of the first nations to introduce sewage works, the nation has had a rapidly improving past. In the modern day however, there is a slight “if it ain’t broke, dont fix it” attitude with many people, leading to a slower technological progression rate. Most innovation is concentrated in the largest companies and military these days, with less passion by the average person.

Currently as it stands on the global average of scientific development, Furoporanorè is…

Information technology (computers etc)  - in line (no breakthroughs but large companies are experimenting ways to calculate faster compared to the less productive Phurupians)

Aircraft development - ahead (A love of aircraft and the fascination with the skies has led to a rapid increase in aircraft technology such as rocket planes. Large companies such as Neu-Resource help participate in the creation of these planes. It is a rare technology the general population can get behind, citing it as “the next step in human movement”.

Medical technology - ahead (Phurupians have always had a strict culture of cleanliness and being in good health. Disease is seen by most people to be the largest threat to civilisation. The nation has also had a history of disease being in a tropical environment, disease was rampant, and so medical improvements were made early on in this nation, leading to breakthroughs. Little is transported overseas however, which leaves a potential market for exports in the future.)

Materials - behind (Phurupians material research is lacking, with people rather using what “looks good” rather than what is necessary.

Buildings - just doing their own thing - looks > function

Land military development - behind (Much land military development is lacking, with Balearian weapons still being used in the stockpile. Many soldiers and generals want this to change however, but the current government is not too interested in this area.)

Energy - behind (energy and its efficiency tends to be behind, due to it seemingly working fine already, no major developments are in this area.)

Home technology - in line  (Home technology is doing very well, with many Phurupians having major brands from the nation, however there is competition from overseas and so more developments into this are in order. The government wants to step up research into this area, in the coming years to deliver practical goods overseas - not just cultural soft power.)

Radar and Security - very ahead: because of the isolation of the past for the UMF, radio and security on a national scale are very developed, with many homes being connected through radios. We are are large developer and the leader of Pulse-Doppler radar research.)

National Education/Research Quality*

The education for all people in Furoporanorè is completely free as well as almost every university. The quality of the schools in Furoporanorè are quite fair, although not the highest rated ones in the world. Education mostly focuses on promoting Furupian ideals and finding exactly what a person wants to do. Specialisation is focused on early on within a child’s development, as early as 10. Non STEM jobs are actually very respected in Furoporanorè (some say more respected), leading to those areas being highly competitive. Children who do not know what area they want to work in by 16 are automatically put onto a study area after evaluation. This has led to some issues if the person really dislikes what they were chosen to do by the education system. Swapping areas is always an option however. Typical universities are a recent concept within Furoporanorè, and instead many people did and still do, go to “Apprenticeship Complexes”. These are essentially, like areas/campuses like universities but instead of courses to earn a degree, people will instead train and work while getting paid by the “Apprenticeship Complex”. These complexes function as almost conglomerates - utalising the skills of the trainees. However, they are normally less profitable and powerful than a company due to: having to train inexperienced workers, being so unspecialised in a certain area and students leaving after getting their training done - to join proper companies. Neu-Resource was once a Apprenticeship Complex before branching out and becoming a full company; they still hold a complex however as part of a company subdivision in Kinohi. Education helps build up both Furupian values of cooperation, cleanliness, trust, forgiveness and overall friendliness and also helps develop the key sectors of both technology and culture that make Furoporanorè special.

A typical education path may would be:

Military Strength, Composition, & Focus* Overall Military strength: Competent

Much of the military information is explained in the Furoporanorè spreadsheet.

The main focus of Furoporanorè’s military policy is that of defence. The borders are routinely patrolled by the military to prevent illegal entry. Regional security is handled by the Furoporanorè police force which is quite small due to a typically rurly population. International operations are legal and may be requested by the government. The only branch truly fit for these is the air force at the moment.

Military Struggles* Military struggles: Medium

There are a couple struggles the military routinely faces. For a start, both the navy and ground force have low budgets with outdated equipment leading to some annoyance from them. Training opportunities are quite high however in all branches, with the military typically being seen as a positive force in Furoporanorè. Conscription is currently voluntary and so, many people go into other areas rather than the military. Regional security such as the police has had rumors that it is rather corrupt which is quite out of the line for Furoporanorè - a typically uncorrupt nation. The main issue in the airforce is the tendency to overspend and get too ambitious on various projects.

 National Welfare & Social Support

Furoporanorè is a social democratic country and so as explained earlier, provides a good amount of national welfare and social support to the people. 20-25% of the GDP is spent on social welfare programs including - national healthcare, housing assistance, poverty reduction schemes, national insurance and child benefits. Unemployment benefits are however rarer and difficult to get in Furoporanorè.

The nation’s healthcare system operates by supplying free healthcare. However, people can pay to upgrade their services. People earning over a certain wage, MUST pay for healthcare. Insurance also is mostly paid for by the government, but premium insurance is also offered which tends to be a loophole and is needed to be paid for by people anyway. There are various preventative health initiatives going on such as contraception for overcrowding, anti-cancer campaigns and ways to stay healthy, physically and mentally.

The overall quality of life in Furoporanorè is excellent, with many people praising the current government’s system, however many people in Furoporanorè are generally happy anyway, and even in poverty (which many are) can be satisfied in this nation. Accessibility still remains an issue. Employment is very easy to get, with many times, companies asking citizens to work. There are many, many cultural and recreational amenities in the nation. A favourite pastime is reading, watching plays and movies and finally roleplaying, with large groups of people coming together to simulate things such as nations for fun. There are many beautiful locations such as parks, malls, grand buildings and holy sites for people to spend their pastime as well. It is very typical for people of Furoporanorè, to have a hobby(s) that they take just as seriously (or sometimes more) than their job - and it's often polite to ask one “How’s your hobby coming along?”.

National Cultural & Historical Background

Furoporanorè has a rich and complex historical background. Much art and music has formed the nation’s culture. Traditional instruments include:

Guitars

Pianos

Pahu

Flute

Ipu

Shamisen

Taiko

Koto

Music however, has tended to place great importance on the voice, with strong singing being a much important aspect of music in Furoporanorè. Fast and Slow songs are popular, although a use of multiple instruments to create complex layering is seen as the highest type of music.

Paintings and textiles tend to portray scenery traditionally. However, self-portaits have recently become popular. Avant-garde art is actually seen as rather “low-art” and unlike our world, regarded by many critics as “too-simple” and not fancy enough. Pottery and jewelry has tended to be elegant with clear influences from the sea.

Clothes are normally light to keep out the heat, but fashionable designs are still important, with bright colours being more popular with males than females.

An important belief is that of “Apuy” which is essentially a Phurupian version of honour or face. This belief states the five key concepts of happiness, forgiveness, trust, respect and presentation are important to live a successful life. Happiness may also be translated as “purpose” or “path”.  This belief has been around since the founding of the nation. It has perhaps stemmed from the hot and wild environment and need to work together as well as an important trade state across the isthmus.

Modern National Culture & Society

There are many interesting things about the modern society of Furoporanorè. To keep it simple, the social trends have currently been to expand and take place as a major power, compared to the “stabalise the nation at all costs”, the general population had coming into independence. Now a clear nation-state, the nation is proud to stand once again as a major cultural power. Trends in culture tend to be relatively small at the moment, but since independence more national pride is explored. Balerian society’s impact on the nation is currently dying down. Art and fashion is tending towards a futuristic 50s feel with interlaced Furoporanorè culture, creating a modern hybrid country of culture and advancement. The younger generation tends to respect the older, but there are some shifts away from each other, especially that to do with the “if it aint broke dont fix it” attitude of the older people. The younger generation is a major driving force however in the nation, with a set to be, largest population ever recorded. Dynamic advancements in first world country society do pose problems that clash with every nations culture - and in Furoporanorè, endless growth is normally looked down upon due to religious influences. There is a growing immigrant population as well, although it quickly assimilates into Furupian culture. Any new developments will be detailed here for reference. Finally, a group of politicians, business leaders, architects and scientists are currently discussing an ambitious program to create a floating city on top of the water - the early stages of research are already underway.

National Religion

The main and official religion of Furoporanorè is Kyodanism. Kyodanism is similar to a mix between the real life religions of Bhuddism and Christianity. It features both meditation and self improvement as well as belief in a God and a son, who travelled across Furoporanorè, before eventually achieving a type of Nirvana and going to heaven. This religion is quite popular although the church typically does not have too much control, with how the religion is structured. Many Phurupians gain meaning for their life because of this religion. Many people in the religion help other nations overseas, spreading the religion. Religious holidays are the same as Christinaity but Christmas and Easter are reversed, and mark the birth and death of Moko Tāniko (their saviour). Denominations tend to form outside of the nation and so little conflicts are had internally, however the greater Kyodanist population can cause conflict between national and overseas Phurupians. Two two major denominations Soyuzu (the main one) and Cholele. There have been a few minor wars because of this religion within Furoporanorè, such as the 1649 Cholele uprising. The two denominations believe in similar things, however regarding the divinity and life of Moko Tāniko, is where they differ. Religion is only a minor cause for division and normally provides more unity.

Civil Struggles*

The nation’s civil struggles tend to be because of a few factors:

Natural disaster (there can be natural disasters that occur in Furoporanorè). Can cause economic and structural damage. Regions with harsher weather conditions tend to be slightly less stable compared with ones that don’t.

No democracy (the government is trying to keep quiet about their lack of true democracy) - can cause unrest and anger from civilians, especially ones who are ignored.

Money issues (some people have money issues that even the social government can’t fix - root causes are varied). Immigration out of Furoporanorè is rare however, although citizens may be found especially in neighboring countries.

Corruption - (there can be some corruption, especially in non-government areas. A root cause may be that of the rapid growth of the nation.)

Gangs (in a few cities, there are said to be criminal gangs going against Furupian lifestyle, these are extremely looked down upon. They are normally quite rare though, and try to partake in “honorable” and high ranking crime.

Sexual Violance - unfortunately, sexual violence and crime has plagued the nation for many, many years, with it being clearly the largest civilian crime problem.

Foreign Relations & Diplomacy*

Furoporanorè has not participated in many summits since independence, however government representatives are sent out for diplomacy for all ex-balearian nations. Time will tell what other conferences Furoporanorè will attend - in which they are very willing to. The nation’s stance on human rights is that they should be obayed by any standards set out, and that breaking them is seen as very dishonourable. Trade agreements are normally met with positivity, as many Furupians want to work out ways of mutual benefit. Most Furupians want regional stability, but they differ on how this can be achieved with mostly two camps of cooperation vs might. Phurupians typically don't tend to be warmongering, however too much comfort and stagnation tends to make many both bored and come up with excuses for war, especially if their nation is seen as starting to look dishonourable. Proxy warfare has never been tried but many clever politicians are graduating every year so, who knows?

Information about diplomacy will develop when interacting with other nations:

Adamlaide - Car and machinery supplier, helpful and large nation for this.

Saqalona - Ally as part of the Baleari Federation

FSJN - Ally as part of the Beleari Federation

Catura - nation seen as a rival to the UMF, with ethnic tensions with many believing the land of Catura is part of our nation. Some Phurupians live in Catura, many who look to their homeland with love, causing tensions within Catura.

Friedman - Ally as part of LoC

Storige - Ally as part of LoC

UNR (United Northern Realms) - Ally as part of LoC

Sanguinius’s nation (I forgor)

Border Statuses & Conflicts*

The status of the borders are treated very much the same at the current moment in Furoporanorè - with suspicion and gentle but firm military maneuvers. The nation has always been tight knit, with a history of fighting off other continental peoples, it is seen as a haven of peace and security that people are welcome to live in, as long as you forgo your other nation. Border statuses will be updated as appropriate:

B5 - Wary (knows little about the nation, although generally people have an ex-balearian affinity)

B6 - Slightly Wary (have had some diplomacy)

Caucus nation - Wary (a large nation can pose as a threat, military border here most secure.)

Additional Information/Lore*

A legendary hero called Faii Wang who is said to have led the group of people across the ocean to arrive at Furoporanorè. Anthropologists from Furoporanorè have struggled to find exactly where the Phurupians of today have arrived from, some say its a distant land or a close island like Australis. Fai, has many tales about him, some saying he could navigate the whole world with his eyes closed. There are many statues and streets in the nation named after him and his tales.

Folklore about different races of people are also prevalent with epic fantasy literature telling of people with various animal traits such as cats, dragons or birds.

Some famous books, television, songs, plays and movies from the nation are:

The Lord of the Wings (book)

The fall of King Kameha (play)

Sotoa (song)

The storm of love (animation)

Daredevil (television series)

She sells sea shells (book)

Purple flowers in the wind (movie)

Beautiful Life (movie)

Random Country Facts:

National Flower - Sea Lavender (The symbolism of the sea lavender is everywhere as a very common plant it is used to dye and perfume many things. Parts of the cost shine a beautiful purple with this plant.

National Dish - Tonbo (A dish consisting of rice, tomato sauce, chili, corn chips, teriyaki sauce and pasta noodles. It is very hearty and filling. Furupian cuisine overall is a mix between Asian and Mexican cuisine with spicy and unique flavours)

National Drink - Vanilla Water (Vanilla is a very popular spice in Furoporanorè. You can get many vanilla flavoured items. A popular one is vanilla water - a drink of water and vanilla mixed together. It is refreshing in the hot water.)

National Animal - Sea Wolf (A unique creature to Furoporanorè,  the sea wolf lives in packs together and hunts in the sea. Much less dangerous and slightly smaller than a typical wolf, the sea wolf mostly catches fish. They are extremely good swimmers and instead of howling, they make clicking sounds, which travel well underwater.

National bird - fruit dove (a bird with many uses, they have been traditionally raced as they always know their home. A old popular pastime is to race them. They are surprisingly very agile fliers.)

Unlike Polynesia, tattoos are normally looked down upon as being “unclean”, only criminals such as the largest organised crime group - “Oro” tend to get them.

The Furupiane Language

The Furupiane language reflects much of its culture. A vibrant and expressive language, it is said to be quite beautiful, while also having good features of expression. It is very close to a real life mix of Thai, Japanese and various Polynesian languages such as (Maori, Hawaiian, Tahitian) and more.

The language officially uses the Latin Script due to modernisation efforts by both the Ex-Balearian and current government. However, an older script does exist and is taught for traditional purposes such as literature and art. The sentence structure is the same as in English being SVO (Subject-Verb-Order).

Furupiane uses similar sounds you can find in English with some exceptions. For starters *r*s are pronounced half similar to an *l* sound. Furthermore, there are no Thai/Filipino sounds that cannot be pronounced with the Polynesian-Japanese sound spread. Another important aspect is elongated sounds. While there are no exact tones in the language, elongated sounds make up much distinction between words. Finally, slight pauses in words also feature. A proper native pronunciation of the country would be represented best in English as - Fulo-polanolè. A long word will be represented with a dash over it such as ā. A gap may be represented with ‘. A proper way to write the country name would be: Furo’poranorè.

Some key words to know in the language would be:

Furoporanorè National Anthem (eng lyrics).mp3

*(Song rendition by current famous Furupian pop star - Mika Tsuesu)

~ Lyrics ~

Run through the cold of night as passion burns in your heart (a reference to sailing to Furoporanorè)

Ready to fight, a knife held close by your side (patriotic defence of the people)

Like a proud wolf alone in the dark with eyes that watch the world (reference to the sea wolves)

And my name like a shadow on the face of the moon (a reference to the god of Kyodan - symbolised as the moon)

Broken mirror (a reference to the prophecy that brought the people to Furoporanorè)

A million shades of light

The old echo fades away (old Phurupians)

But just you and I

Can find the answer and then

We can run to the end of the world (finding Furoporanorè)

We can run to the end of the world

Cold fire clenched to my heart in the blue of night (stars guiding the people to their homeland)

Torn by this pain, I paint your name in sound (music being important to the culture or could be a reference to general harsh Furupian life in the olden days - where culture was their relief.)

And the girl of the dawn with eyes of blue and angel wings (God of Kyodan - normally symbolised as female)

The songs of the season are her only crown

Broken mirror

A million shades of light

The old echo fades away

But just you and I

Can find the answer and then

We can run to the end of the world

We can run to the end of the world

We met in the mist of morning (part of the religious cycle of Kyodanism and also the founding of the nation)

And parted deep in the night

Broken sword and shield and tears that never fall (Myth of Fai)

But run through the heart

Washed away by the darkest water (ocean being part of the culture)

The world is peaceful and still

Broken mirror

A million shades of light (this could be a reference to the sky)

The old echo fades away

But just you and I

Can find the answer and then

We can run to the end of the world

We can run to the end of the world

Flag / Roundels / Battle Flags of Country?

- Flag (complex)

- Flag (simple) - simple is used in more casual settings where people may struggle to reproduce the more complex flowers. The colours are less complex as well - to save ink.

(There is a lot of hidden symbolism in the flag of Furoporanorè. The dots are read dot, two dashes (for each stalk of sea lavander) and another dot which is P - a signal used in light and smoke signs in the nation for “Pathway” and “Ready to sail”. The two dots also represent the comets that can appear in the night sky of the nation, with traditional Furupian art acting as the trails. Finally, the bars symbolise the monarchy/government and the people as well as invoking wings or stairs showing the nation’s freedom and great spirit. The deep blue background can mean both the sky and the sea.

^ Military roundel

(The military roundel features a traditional Furupian art pattern depicting a circle which symbolises community and is modelled off old family council buildings. Inside there is a yellow sun, symbolising the brightness of the people. The green outer circle represents the lush land of the nation.)

 - Alternate royal versions

Overall, Furoporanorè is a beautiful land of many people, featuring a rich and complex culture while still taking a place as a modern nation. The sun shines upon Furoporanorè as everything, be it important or not, creates a land that in the end of the day, gives purpose and a path for many lives, sailing into the horizon. This shows the passion.

Ev’ry moment was sacred and mystic. We were hoping the night was eternal. The days are gone and so far away. I’m still singing your sweet song.

For long, Long windy nights.
