United Northern Realms (Einuðig Norðrættir)

National Language

Fjallættiran (Icelandic based), Velskaettiran

The two official languages of the United Northern Realms are Fjallættiran and Velkættiran, owing to the two nations merging into one.  About 80% of the population speaks Andharian.

Capital City

Ægirhamn

Geographic Location

Located in the former Velskaettiran territory, it is secured in the deep warm water bay of the same name. Formerly this city was used as a large ship production space and naval yard, with a decent fishing population around. Due to its more central location, and increased defensibility it was selected as the new Capital for the joined nation of the United Northern Realms.

Population

The population of Ægirhamn is mostly that of government officials, their families, and the services to maintain it, with the near-by military base housing a lot of its own population. This has resulted in a fairly diverse population from across the Realms. As it is the new centre of power, many representatives of the nations of Tasharkan can be found here as well, both in diplomatic matters as well as overall population.

History

Pre-Monarchy History

Prior to 836, the various Fjallættir clans were heavily nomad, establishing small settlements they moved between as needed, with no real permanent structures. The first real permanent settlement was the establishment of the city of Strandgarðr. This was more of a fortress with trading posts built in, designed to be easily reachable across the northern lands. The first real signs of the nation came in 836 when the city itself was complete, and a council of clans met to decide who may have a rotating time guarding the city.

The Keisari Einharðursson

The forming of the first real government was in 1055, when Hjalmar Einharðursson united the thirteen clans against an initial attempt to control the city of Strandgarðr against Velskættir Kingdom invasion in an effort for the new king to unify the northern lands under his banner. The invasion was repelled, and the twelve clans pledged their fealty to the new War King of the Clanlands, establishing the proper monarchy system used for the next 800 years in 1063 with the official pledge of the surrounding clans to the new King, crowning him Keisari.

The Great Expansion

In the years that followed there was somewhat of a balance between the two emerging kingdoms, with the fight between strength under a single unified leader, or the establishing of the new clan focused system and preserving the Ættsvík structure of life under the Keisari.

Ættsvík

The Ættsvík structure is the idea of a community working closely and being reliant on themselves as a collective. In these days, they were effectively tiny towns within close proximity to each other, that allowed small trade on a level. They were built around a large community structure, with smaller homes around that, and finally merchants and artisans surrounding those homes. It was designed to create an easy way for the Ættsvík to trade with other Ættsvík, while also allowing them to create a defensive structure to protect the inner workings. Forts were built in a similar manner, constructed with circular walls, and an Ættsvík inside. When multiple Ættsvík combined they created a town, which usually had each Ættsvík as a small district of that town.

This way of life is a core of the Fjallættir life, with the collective of the family clan being more important than any one individual within it. All were meant to serve the greater whole. This was highlighted under the Keisari, by himself creating a similar structure, and not allowing any member of his family to maintain the position as Heir Apparent, they had to first go out and serve the greater whole.

Not as many wished to maintain their old ways, and many sought the power of a unified monarchy, but many still did join the Clanlands over the years, and become the larger body that was. This lead to the establishing of roughly the same border between the Velskættir Kingdom and the Fjallættir Clanlands for the next 800 years.

Age of the Sea

The Fjallættiran people had always been seafaring people, with their longships being prized clan possessions. It was so much so, that the act of destroying one was considered to be reprehensible, and was cause for exile. As the industry of shipbuilding expanded, so too did the skill of the builders in the Clanlands. While not able to produce ships as quickly, they produced a higher quality, and for centuries ships built in the Clanlands were considered some of the best in the world. On top of this sailors from the Clanlands were infamous mercenaries, known to work on ships across the globe - both on the side of nations and as pirates. This had earned the Clanlands a

Discovery of the Eldhaf Islands

The Eldhaf Islands were discovered in 1252, and an initial colony was established in 1264. THe warm waters, rich growing fields, and hotsprings lead to the colony being formalized in 1302. Since then the islands have been a launching point for many naval expeditions throughout the years. One departure lead to the discovery of the Norvinda Colony in [YEAR].

Norvinda Colony

The Norvinda colony remained a tough area to manage, with ocean currents making the trip dangerous, and the need for strategic planning required to avoid getting caught in storms known to sink even the most sturdy of ships.

Importance of the Islands in later years

The Eldhaf islands became a key strategic resource of the Clanlands for centuries, with stationing of naval resources there allowing for a dispersal of their navy, as well as a warmer weather climate with extended growing seasons for food production limiting reliance on surrounding nations. The Eldhaf Islands have remained critical to that for centuries on.

Development of Democratic Systems

The Clanlands moved towards a semi-democratic system in the later years of the 1600s, with the establishment of the Keisari Council to assist the Keisari in establishing a decentralized governing system. As the Velskættir Kingdom moved towards a Constitutional Monarch in the mid 1700’s, so too did the Fjallættir Clanlands, leading to the establishment of the Clan Assembly and the constitution in 1786.

Industrialization

Starting in the 1700s, as industrial equipment began to crop up around the world, and in the spaces where Fjallættiran Mercenaries worked, the Keisari Council realized much of this technology could be applied to their limited population to greatly improve livelihoods. The introduction of steam systems in the early 1800s resulted in the first real production facilities able to modernize in the shipbuilding yards. The discovery of oil in the coastal regions of the clanlands resulted in further development of their industry to better utilize the resource.

Eldhaf Geothermal

Using the principals of the steam engines the people of the Clanlands realized the hot springs of the islands would be able to turn similar systems. Early adoption was poor at best, resulting in limited success. However as electricity production became more relevant the same systems were found to be able to spin turbines with great ease. The first geothermal plant for power generation coming online in 1901.

Modern Century

In the Modern World the Fjallættir Clanlands sat on the edge of much of the worlds grand plays, somewhat removed from the larger picture due to its location.

Labour Unions

While many nations, such as the neighbouring Velskættir Kingdom suffered with worsening conditions for the working class, the power of the Ættsvík resulting in a large support for worker solidarity. This was backed by the Keisari of the time, who himself had spent time both in mines and in metal working facilities to know what his people endured. He not only welcomed the formation of unions, but publicly advocated for the Clan Assembly to enact legislation the protected the rights of unions. A famous picture of the king, covered in soot from a coal fired power plant, giving a speech about the importance of protecting the workers of the Clanlands is still used as a pro-union poster to this day. The picture depicts Keisari Gunnar, his cloak ruined from smoke and ash, giving a passionate speech to reporters and workers alike.

Aviation

From the early adoption of Aviation, there has been a passion for the benefits of it in the Clanlands. Northman Engineering was known for producing bushplanes and small cargo transports for moving goods across the small nation. They were eventually absorbed into the larger United Northern Realms Royal Foundries. Today aerospace technologies are some of the largest businesses in the UNR.

The Grand War

During the outbreak of the war, the Fjallaettir Clanlands was divided on whether to support either side. Early on Keisari Gunnar called for a modernization of the armed forces, and the proper establishment of an Air Arm within the Royal Navy. Unfortunately he passed on early into the war, and Keisari Einar assumed the throne. Having been a military member, the new Keisari was hesitant to send men and women of the Clanlands to the far flung war, to die in a conflict he did not believe his people had any need to be involved in. Instead, he lead efforts for rapid industrialization and modernization of all Clanlands facilities, so if conflict did come, they would be prepared for this. This included the construction of the Eldhaf Energy Complex, to develop further oil and natural gas processes over the next several decades. This earned the Keisari the somewhat imposing title of Keisari Einar, the Patient.

The Collapse of the Velskættir Kingdom

The Velskættir Kingdom began a collapse realistically in 1947, following the end of the Grand War, where members of the general population were somewhat panicked about their devolving quality of life. As hyper-capitalist tensions claimed the Kingdom, a growing divide occurred between the working class and the elites of their nation. Two separate groups came to differing conclusions on how best to handle these changes. A rising anti-monarch group saw the opulent lives of the monarchy as the issue, impeding true capitalism, while another more socialist tension rose around. Both groups found themselves armed, and at the palace gates when someone fired first, striking a socialist protestor. This erupted into small armed conflicts around the nation, and in all the confusion the King and his Heir Apparent were shot and killed.

The Fjallættiran Clanlands stepped in to assist with restablishing peace in the region. The Keisari’s wife, was in fact the next in line for the Velskættiran throne, and assumed it as such. With the two nations sharing effectively a monarchy, there was a question as to whether the differences were really as prevalent as some propaganda from staunch nationalists might have you believe. Instead, it was voted on, and ultimately decided upon, to dissolve the two nations and reemerge as one.

The United Northern Realms

Emerging in 1949 as a unified governing body, the United Northern Realms merged the two former nations together, resulting in a single massive nation. In 1950 a new capital was selected, in Ægirhamn, with new buildings constructed to reflect this new change.

Government Type/Structure

Constitutional Monarchy

The Kingdom operates as a Constitutional Monarchy, with the Keisari as the head of state, holding a hereditary position. The Kingdom transitioned to this form of government in 1782 to address growing dissent among the clans, adopting a democratic system in 1889. Citizens above the age of majority have the right to vote and run for office.

Head of State

The Keisari serves as the hereditary head of state and Supreme Commander of the Royal Armed Forces. They possess theoretical veto power on wartime efforts and play a crucial role in signing laws into effect through Royal Approval. While having the right to veto, this has occurred only twice since the establishment of the Constitution in 1782.

Ascent to the Throne

To become the Keisari Apparent (Heir of the Clanlands), individuals must earn the respect of the clans through a more civil and calm approach. Higher education and military service are prerequisites, with potential heirs required to attend Royal Universities and complete military service of a minimum of eleven years.

Official Titles

The Keisari holds the title Keisari Einuðig Norðrættir, Haukur Þjóðvæðings, Varðherra Eldeyja og Dvalar (Emperor of the Clanlands, Chief of the Royal Armed Forces, Protector of the Islands of Fire and all Domains). This title emphasizes the responsibility of protecting all clans under their unity.

Keisari’s Council

Comprising the twelve clans supporting the Royal Family's ascent, the Keisari’s Council consolidates power and manages various provinces and resources to prevent infighting. Council members are elected through a process similar to the Keisari's ascent, requiring service to the greater Clanlands.

The highest governing court ensures laws align with the Clanlands' Constitution. Seven appointed justices serve ten-year terms, with a five-year hiatus from government positions following their tenure.

Operation of the Government

Legislative Branch

In the Fjallættir government, the legislative process involves the Clan Assembly, the primary legislative body operating within a parliamentary system. Any member of the Assembly can propose a new law, known as a Bill. The proposed Bill undergoes a thorough process, starting with readings before the Assembly, where members engage in debates and suggest amendments. Once the Bill successfully passes a full reading without amendments, it proceeds to a vote. A majority vote is required for the Bill to be approved.

The Clan Assembly holds additional powers beyond lawmaking, including passing budgets and the authority to recall the Executive Branch if it is perceived to be abusing its power. The First Minister, leader of the largest party in the Assembly, becomes the head of the government and represents it in day-to-day affairs. This parliamentary system fosters collaboration among multiple parties in the Assembly, as they often need to work together to form a majority. The legislative branch, thus, plays a central role in shaping and approving laws while ensuring checks and balances within the government structure.

The Clan Assembly might also form committees to investigate matters, often pulled from the various parties per their representation. These committees can do anything from reviewing the budget, investigating matters of corruption, or ensuring that laws are more thoroughly dissected.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch in the Fjallættir government, consisting of the First Minister and the Cabinet of the Council, plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of governance. The First Minister, selected from the largest party in the Clan Assembly, represents the government to foreign dignitaries and manages diplomatic relations. The Cabinet members oversee specific departments, such as State Affairs, Treasury, Justice, and Education, taking on practical leadership roles. Historically advising the Crown's Council, they now act as heads of their respective departments. The Executive Branch is tasked with implementing laws, collaborating with the Legislative Branch (Clan Assembly), and interacting with the Judicial Branch, ensuring checks and balances within the government structure. This collaboration fosters effective governance, ensuring the execution of laws and policies in both domestic and international contexts.

Judicial

The Judicial arm is comprised of the Courts and the various law enforcement agencies. This is the arm that is responsible for ensuring the laws of the land follow the Constitution, and are right and just. They oversee all criminal cases through the various courts. The top of this is the Supreme Court.

Royal National Police Service

The National law enforcement is undertaken by the Royal National Police Service, which is the highest authority in the nation when it comes to law enforcement. They are responsible for border check points, customs, and regular policing duties. Towns and cities too small for their own police force will have a RNPS assigned to their town.

Working in conjunction with the Armed Forces, they support Intelligence operations.

Economic System

In the United Northern Realms (UNR), a sophisticated and inclusive economic system thrives through a model of Market Socialism. This unique framework integrates government and clan ownership of industries with market dynamics, ensuring that economic activities align with the nation's cultural values and governance structure. The Royal Family, symbolizing unity and stability, actively oversees strategic sectors through Crown Corporations, ensuring fair competition and the nation's economic prosperity. These Crown Corporations, alongside clan enterprises and private entities, contribute to a competitive and dynamic marketplace, fostering innovation and communal growth.

The economic framework of the UNR is characterized by several distinct features that ensure both prosperity and social equity. Key Crown Corporations, such as the United Northern Realms Royal Foundries (UNRRF) and UNR National Oil, dominate strategic sectors. UNRRF, the largest company in the UNR, specializes in aerospace, shipbuilding, and heavy equipment manufacturing, serving as a cornerstone of the national economy and defense. UNR National Oil manages all oil extraction and refining activities, ensuring efficient and sustainable use of the nation’s vast oil resources, significantly contributing to national revenue and energy security. Beyond these, the government controls key industries like energy, transportation, and heavy manufacturing, ensuring essential services are accessible and serve the public interest.

Clan enterprises operate primarily in agriculture, forestry, fishing, and crafts, reflecting communal ownership and management. These enterprises distribute economic benefits among clan members, reinforcing community ties and local development. Clans utilize cooperative practices, making collective decisions and reinvesting profits into their communities, supporting social cohesion and sustainable local growth. Market mechanisms play a crucial role in determining prices, production, and competition within the framework set by the central economic planning body, fostering innovation and efficiency while maintaining economic stability. Small and medium-sized private businesses operate in non-strategic sectors like retail and services, enhancing economic diversity and offering a wide range of goods and services to consumers.

Labor unions, empowered by a previous Keisari's policies, hold significant influence, ensuring workers' rights are protected and their interests represented in economic decisions. Workers in government and clan-owned enterprises engage in decision-making through unions and workers' councils, influencing policies and workplace conditions. Unions negotiate wages, working conditions, and benefits, ensuring fair labor practices and economic equity. The UNR provides comprehensive support systems like healthcare, education, and unemployment benefits, ensuring citizens' well-being. Extensive social welfare programs aim to reduce economic disparities and promote social equity, including progressive taxation, wealth redistribution, and targeted regional investments.

The economic system prioritizes sustainability, with regulations to protect the environment and promote the sustainable use of natural resources. Industries adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute to conservation efforts, while both government and clans invest in infrastructure, education, and health services to improve citizens' quality of life. Significant investments in R&D focus on renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and biotechnology, maintaining the nation’s technological edge. Strong emphasis on education ensures the workforce is well-prepared for modern economic demands, with educational institutions collaborating with industries to tailor programs to market needs.

Reflecting resilience, adaptability, and community, the economic system of the UNR reinforces cultural traditions while supporting social fabric. The blend of heritage and innovation is evident in how industries operate and in their products and services. A robust legal framework ensures economic vitality through balanced restrictions and freedoms, preventing monopolistic practices and maintaining a dynamic market. Provisions against insider trading and other malpractices safeguard financial markets, encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation. By integrating these elements, the UNR's economic system strives to balance market dynamics with socialist principles, ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The strong influence of labor unions reinforces the collective strength and unity of the United Northern Realms, creating an environment where both prosperity and social well-being coexist.

Government Centralization

In the Fjallættir Clanlands, a robust system of government centralization prevails, marked by a carefully structured hierarchy and a harmonious balance between federal authority and regional autonomy. The centralization of power is most pronounced in the legislative process. Laws are suggested and voted upon by the Clan Assembly, the primary legislative body. The proposals then ascend through layers of scrutiny, passing through the Cabinet's review, judicial assessment by the Supreme Court, and ultimately receiving the Royal Approval from the reigning monarch, be it the King or Queen.

The distribution of power leans significantly toward the federal government, with provinces holding nominal power. Policy-making, taxation, law enforcement, and other critical governance aspects are primarily overseen by the central authority. While the Clanlands acknowledge the importance of regional identity, historical factors and the need for unity have shaped a centralized governance structure. The rare instances of the Crown withholding approval emphasize the continuity and stability of this system, underscoring the efficiency and balance achieved through careful central control.

To balance central authority with regional autonomy, there may be certain mechanisms in place to address the unique needs of different regions. However, these mechanisms are designed to complement the overarching unity and stability upheld by the central government. The Fjallættir Clanlands' historical legacy, deeply rooted in a sense of common identity and mutual cooperation, contributes to the nation's commitment to centralized governance as a cornerstone of its political and cultural stability.

Government Cohesion

The Fjallættir Clanlands exhibit a remarkable cohesion within its government, characterized by a well-structured and centralized system. The various branches, including the legislative Clan Assembly, the executive Cabinet, and the judiciary represented by the Supreme Court, work together harmoniously. Decision-making processes are meticulous, involving multiple layers of scrutiny and review, fostering a sense of thoroughness and unity in governance. While provinces hold nominal power, the central government's overarching authority prevails, emphasizing a shared commitment to the nation's stability and prosperity.

The effectiveness of decision-making processes is notable, and consensus is typically achieved through careful consideration of laws and policies. Conflicts are infrequent, as the system is designed to accommodate diverse perspectives within a framework of unity. The rare instances of the Crown withholding approval serve as a testament to the gravity and importance of consensus, highlighting a commitment to balanced governance.

The cultural factors influencing this cohesion lie in the historical legacy of the Fjallættir Clanlands. Rooted in a sense of common identity and shared destiny, the nation's political landscape reflects a cultural emphasis on cooperation and mutual understanding. While differences may exist, they are managed through mechanisms and strategies that prioritize unity. The historical commitment to centralized governance, stemming from the need for stability and collaboration in the face of challenges, continues to shape the cohesive political landscape of the Fjallættir Clanlands..

Terrain & Climate

The Fjallættir Clanlands are situated in a region characterized by majestic mountainous terrain, cold climates, and abundant bodies of water. Dominated by imposing mountain ranges reminiscent of the Nordic lands, the landscape is defined by rugged peaks and deep valleys. The coastal areas boast dramatic coastlines, featuring fjords and rocky shores that intertwine with the cold, clear waters of the surrounding seas. Islands, reminiscent of the Eldhaf archipelago, add to the nation's geographical diversity, creating unique microclimates and cultural pockets.

The prevailing climate in the Fjallættir Clanlands is cold and temperate, with distinct seasons. Winters are harsh, bringing freezing temperatures, snowfall, and icy winds, especially in the mountainous regions. Summers are brief but relatively mild, providing a respite from the cold. The coastal areas experience cooler temperatures compared to the inland regions, influenced by maritime influences. Rainfall and precipitation patterns vary, with coastal regions receiving more moisture than the interior.

This diverse terrain and climate significantly impact various aspects of life within the nation. Agriculture is adapted to the cold conditions, with hardy crops and livestock thriving in the mountainous landscapes. Trade routes navigate through the fjords and coastal areas, linking settlements and facilitating the exchange of goods. Settlement patterns are influenced by the topography, with cities often nestled in valleys or along the coastlines for strategic reasons and access to resources.

Natural landmarks, such as the towering peaks of the mountain ranges and the intricate network of fjords, hold immense cultural and historical importance. They are woven into the fabric of Fjallættir identity, shaping folklore, traditions, and providing a stunning backdrop to the nation's history. Overall, the terrain and climate of the Fjallættir Clanlands forge a resilient and resourceful society that embraces the challenges and beauty of its rugged environment.

Military Struggles

Size and Geography Challenges

Issue

The nation's comparatively smaller size, especially in comparison to neighboring Velska, poses challenges in maintaining effective maritime patrol over its considerable territory, including the Eldhar Islands.

Impact

Heavy investment in maritime patrol is essential, leading to debates within the government about the allocation of resources. Some argue it's a necessity, while others see it as an economic burden.

Geographical Spread and Maritime Patrol

Issue

The spread-out territory, particularly the Eldhar Islands, requires continuous and extensive maritime patrol efforts, stretching the capabilities of the naval forces.

Impact

The strain on maritime patrol can lead to potential vulnerabilities in territorial defense. The ongoing construction of a naval tender and consideration of leasing a carrier aim to address these challenges and enhance patrol capabilities.

Naval Tender and Seaplane Integration

Issue

Despite the necessity, there are internal debates, especially among pacifist members, regarding the perceived extravagance of investing in a naval tender designed for seaplane coordination.

Impact

Balancing the opinions within the government is crucial to secure funding for the naval tender project. The integration of seaplanes aims to improve maritime patrol efficiency, but discussions about its financial viability persist.

Outdated Equipment and Modernization

Issue

Some segments of the armed forces may be grappling with outdated equipment, potentially impacting operational effectiveness.

Impact

Ongoing efforts for military modernization are crucial to address this challenge. The nation's commitment to modernizing equipment and considering the leasing of a carrier reflects an awareness of the need for updated capabilities.

Budget Constraints and Military Spending

Issue

The economic strain of maintaining a robust military presence, especially in maritime territories, may lead to budget constraints.

Impact

Balancing military spending with other economic needs becomes a delicate task. The government faces challenges in justifying the allocation of funds to the armed forces, particularly for projects like the naval tender and potential carrier lease.

Security Threats and Regional Dynamics

Issue

The potential neglect of certain military branches due to budget constraints may impact the nation's offensive capabilities and responses to security threats.

Impact

While the Fjallættir Clanlands seeks to maintain a strong defense, limitations may affect its influence in regional security dynamics. Striking a balance between readiness and economic considerations is crucial for sustainable military capabilities.

National Religion

The Æsivir religion of the Fjallættir people draws inspiration from Norse mythology, of gods, goddesses, and cosmic forces that shape their worldview. Here are key aspects:

Pantheon

The pantheon is populated by powerful and distinct deities who govern different aspects of life. Major gods and goddesses such as Odin, Thor, Freyja, and Loki have counterparts in the Æsivir pantheon, each associated with specific domains.

World Tree: Similar to Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, the Æsivir religion envisions a sacred World Tree connecting different realms. The roots delve into the realms of the living, the dead, and the divine, emphasizing the interconnectedness of existence.

Cosmic Forces: Æsivir beliefs emphasize the dynamic interplay of cosmic forces, including fate (wyrd), honor, and the cyclical nature of life and death. These forces shape individual destinies and the fate of the Fjallættir people.

Rituals and Sacrifices: Rituals are a crucial part of Æsivir worship, often involving offerings and sacrifices to gain favor from the gods. Blóts, or blood sacrifices, symbolize a deep connection between the mortal and divine realms.

Valkyries and Afterlife: Valkyries, divine maidens, serve as messengers of the gods and guides of the fallen warriors to the afterlife. The Æsivir afterlife is envisioned as a warrior's paradise, where honorable souls are reunited with their kin in eternal feasting and revelry.

Seers and Runes: The Æsivir religion places importance on prophecy and divination. Seers, often associated with the use of runes, interpret signs and symbols to provide guidance and insight into the future.

Temples and Sacred Sites: Temples and sacred groves dot the landscape, serving as places of worship and communal gatherings. These sites are often located in natural settings, such as mountains, forests, and rivers.

Civil Struggles

Immigrant Discrimination

Despite the nation's motto of "One Clan," discrimination against immigrants persists. The deep-seated belief in the importance of blood ties within clans creates a challenging environment for those who join but are not considered blood members. This prejudice extends to their children, impacting their opportunities for promotions and social integration. While there is gradual improvement, the tension stemming from traditional beliefs lingers, creating a complex social dynamic within the UNR.

Cultural Relics of the Age of Sail

The shadow of the Age of Sail continues to influence the Fjallættir culture. The pursuit of personal glory and traditional Viking-style activities, such as raiding and piracy, had once elevated individuals and clans. While these practices have faded over time, concerns persist that economic downturns might revive such activities. The allure of personal glory remains ingrained, posing a potential challenge to the nation's efforts to foster a more stable and cooperative society.

These struggles impact the internal cohesion of the Clanlands, testing the balance between traditional values and the evolving societal norms. Efforts to address discrimination and the potential resurgence of past activities require delicate navigation to ensure a harmonious future for the Fjallættir people. Internationally, these issues may influence diplomatic interactions, as the Clanlands grapple with presenting a unified front while addressing internal social challenges.

Foreign Relations & Diplomacy

Neutrality in the Great War

Both nations that now make up the United Northern Realms are

Cold Relations with Elwaky

Overall, the UNR views the Elwaky Federation with heavy suspicion and skepticism. Recent instability in their government and overall society leads the stance of the United Northern Realms to believe that Elwaky will be a failed state in the next few decades. Especially as their overall pact - Solair, continues towards heavy isolationism and withdrawal from global economic cooperation.

Diplomatic Priorities and Multilateral Engagement

The Clanlands prioritize diplomacy that aligns with their values, placing emphasis on issues such as human rights, regional stability, and responsible warfare. While they may not seek to impose their will aggressively, they engage in diplomatic summits, conferences, and multilateral agreements to address global challenges collaboratively.

International Stance

Their foreign relations reflect a commitment to ethical practices and cooperative efforts. The Clanlands advocate for human rights, participate in trade agreements that align with their values, and contribute to regional stability. While not aggressively imposing their will, they navigate international affairs with a sense of responsibility, aware of the broader implications of their actions.

Border Statuses & Conflicts

Elwaky

To the direct west of the United Northern Realms is the Elwaky Federation, a loose collection of clans likely sharing a similar descent to the citizens of the UNR. They suffered heavily in the Great War, and their overall population is relatively unstable. In years past, bands of effectively marauders have crossed the borders of Elwaky into the former Kingdom of Velskaettir. Further, being on opposing Military and Economic pacts means there is little hope for trust between them and the UNR.

Currently the two nations are locked in a sort of Cold War.

Frieedman Empire

The southern neighbour of the United Northern Realms is the Frieedman Empire. Overall the two monarchies have long exhibited a period of trust and cooperation between the two. They share a joint mutual defense agreement, as well as a share of citizens as many citizens of the Frieedman Empire work in the United Northern Realms.

The Kingdom of Ophelia

The United Northern Realms largest sea neighbour. The two have no formal diplomatic relations, and overall are pretty cold to one another.

These arose from historical trade alliances and eventually evolved into fortifications against external threats. The decentralized nature fosters a sense of community while allowing flexibility in response to changing needs. Elected caretakers oversee the mutual well-being of these interconnected settlements, embodying a collective approach to governance.
