Players: Scimitar
Slot: C14
A half-baked by-product of the Great War, Amaraèia has a history of Kutsani rule. The Amarach plurality, after which the nation is named are maritime relatives of the neighbouring Ciarrach people, though large minorities of classical Ciarric "Seana", Kutsani, and Ostish people co-exist.
With independence thrust unexpectedly on the Amarach, most institutions are nascent and underdeveloped if they exist at all - this leaves the president with a series of social safety-nets and civil services to establish. Moreover, the nation's aim must be to craft a common Amaraèian story to unite its populus.
There are reasons for optimism however, the absence of regulation leaves room for temporarily unhindered capitalist growth with the low labour cost of newly urbanised subsistance farmers. Academics remains the pursuit of the landed wealthy, as such a quality over quantity approach defines Amaraèia's comparitive advantages in pharmaceuticals and (later) early Information Technology - already, successes in antibiotic development and alloy production have given glimpses of Amaraèia's relevence into the future.

| The President's Men [+/-] | The President's Examination Board now bypasses the chamber to appoint technocrats of his choosing. |
| An Identity Crisis [-] | Amaraèia is split between minority populations, each owing a degree of loyalty to a neighbouring state. |
| Urbanisation [+/-] | A new, naive urban population, able to manufacture assets at a fraction of the normal cost till living standards and regulation improve. |
| Academic Nobility [+] | Exceptional research in civilian fields such as pharmaceuticals, material science, and Information Technology. |
| Veterans of Kutsan [+/-] | The Great War has stolen much of a generation, the survivors are battle-hardened and have fraternity to fight for. |
| Political Ambiguity [+] | The new state finds itself under the rule of a hybrid regime with flexibility in its diplomatic optics: "To the world's Democrats we are a chamber of Democrats, to the Capitalists we are the Free'st of Markets, to the Socialists we are a council of the People's finest minds". |

National Population
The population of 32,689,057 is stricken by the loss of men in the Great War, a generation of children are forced to rise up to take their places on the fields and factory floors. There are minorities each around 8% from our Rimainn (Kutsani) and Ostisch neighbors as well as 20% “Seana” a native minority predating from the Ciarrai’s classical era empire. The Amarach-proper (~45%) have a degree of shared heritage with modern Ciarrai and other Goidelic cultures and may be more likely to support future imperialistic/unification efforts in the region.Government
An independent Presidential Republic emerged in the aftermath of the Great War. There is also a unicameral parliament, though its powers have been stripped back by the popular president. The parliamentary opposition is looking to progress towards a confederate direct democracy, while the president espouses anticorruption through technocratic selection of the nation’s top engineers, thinkers, and policy researchers – conveniently appointed by his own Examination Board.
Economy
A burgeoning capitalist market, still recovering from the corruption of the post-war period. Regulatory institutions are yet to be implemented. There is a large centrally planned public sector under the president’s watch, but economic liberalization continues.
Centralization
Post-war, the state was highly centralized under the president’s rule. The opposition, with greater support from the nation’s minorities is pushing for confederation.
Government Cohesion
As things stand, the rather autocratic government is certainly popular. With the shifting winds of ideology and neighboring soft-power, however, change could blow in soon.
Terrain and Climate
Tropical/subtropical. Maritime, with two ragged coasts – one facing the enclosed sea to the north.
Cities and Ports
A metropolitan area has grown up around Balsmùida, between Loc Smùid (the lake in the west of the country) and a large sheltered bay on the Northern Coast.
Eala is a cool and lofty retreat situated high in the hills surrounding a small lake. Leaders will often hold their conferences here during the height of the sun’s fire.
Kylruiv is an industrialized powerhouse on the east coast, home to factories and military installations.
Ìl nEif is an island in the enclosed sea. It is calm and uneventful there, though there are naval bases stationed there.
Resources and Economic Produce
Agricultural industry predominates with fish farming, tropical grains and tea being grown. The nation lacks enough coal for power but has great hydro potential and there is oil offshore. The hills are home to all the basic metals required for manufacturing.
Economic Boons
Cheap labor due to the recent shift from subsistence farming has promoted industrialization and a growing secondary industry is promising a bright future. Agriculture remains predominant, though land reform is on the cards in the name of efficiency – whether the people or corporations stand to gain is still to be decided.
Economic Struggles
Reduced working male population, women working the factories for cheap. Many regulatory institutions absent or still finding their feet.
Technology Level
Largely level with neighbours for the time-period. Certainly not a superpower by any means, Amaraèia regardless fields a large navy for the size of the country and has marine architecture and doctrine experience as such. Research is largely civilian in nature, and so comparative advantages in medicine, IT, and even material science are possibilities that could yield results for the MIC in times of need.
Education and Research
The education system is new, academics are primarily from the upper class. Quality is valued over quantity, research here does not advance fast but is always reliable, repeatable, and applicable.
Military
As an aspiring regional power, Amaraèia fields a large navy with two mediocre aircraft carriers. The air force is also a priority, as air-superiority is deemed vital for a defensive war. Due to population imbalance, the Amarach infantry is scarcely relevant and plans to fight a guerilla campaign of defence with support from the more capable navy and air force. In the future, a wing of the military devoted to cyber-warfare could be established early.
Due to centralized government with a firm grip over the military, the organization is currently efficient and streamlined – if lacking checks and balences.
Welfare and Social Support
Very little social safety net has been developed, the president’s party plans to increase spending here to maintain popular support.
Culture and History
The Amarach culture diverged for classical Ciarrai in the medieval period supplanting the native Seana people. They have a rich musical and oratorial tradition. Amaraèia has an especially maritime national identity, counterpart to Ciarrai’s more terrestrial expansion.
Modern Culture and Society
The modern period has been marked by the shattering of past empires, with Amaraèia being suddenly thrust into independence. The task of the new state will be to craft a cohesive national identity of its own.
New technology has seen rapid industrialization and society is grappling with this cultural revolution of sorts. There have been a few unique innovations and inventions in the fields of alloy production and antibiotic treatment for the modern nation to be proud of, but developments such as media and entertainment are largely imported from the world’s larger markets. Amarach language productions are being promoted by the government however.
Religion
The Amarach church is in common with the wider region, not state influenced and with no sectarianism to play any role in politics.
Civil Struggles
Minorities distrust the Amarach plurality as sympathetic to Ciarrai.
Foreign Relations and Diplomacy
Following the partition of the region, the government has attended conferences to settle differences with its new neighbors diplomatically. We are now open to hearing from larger blocs across the world to find our place in it – made easier by the President’s ambiguous ideology. To the Democrats we are Democrats, to the Capitalists we are Capitalists, to the Socialists we are Socialists.
Border Statuses and Conflicts
The standing infantry’s only role is defence and patrol of the border. A coast guard patrols the northern isles. Partition divided our borders cleanly, but there are Amarach minorities scattered along our borders which we might be temped to defend should they be subject to persecution – it would be a balancing act, due to the minorities within our own borders.
Additional Lore
Nùren is a fabled mariner said to have saved the Amarach from conquest and eradication with the invention of the ship’s rudder. Though outnumbered vastly, his fleet was able to outmanoeuvre the ships rowed by his adversaries and he was revered as a divine champion for some time. Today, he remains a symbol of Amarach perseverance and ingenuity.
