Empire of Tokaido
The Empire of Tokaido (often referred to simply as The Empire) is an ancient feudal monarchy with a history spanning over 2,000 years. The Empire was founded after a seafaring conquest in 1007 BCE by Aenir I, the Conqueror, who established the capital at Kingston. Over the centuries, Tokaido has endured numerous internal conflicts, including the Dornsife Rebellion of 1945, which solidified the power of the current royal house, House Wembley.
Geography and Climate
Tokaido enjoys a subtropical Mediterranean climate, with varied landscapes including fertile plains, mountainous regions rich in minerals, and arid southern deserts. The country’s natural resources include iron, coal, silver, and oil, making it a major economic player in the region.
Population
With a population of 89.75 million, the majority of Tokaido’s people are Goths, characterized by medium-tall stature, fair skin, and dark or blonde hair. The country is highly urbanized, with many large cities, such as Kingston, Gateshall, and Hannston, acting as commercial and industrial hubs.
Government
Tokaido is a feudal monarchy, with supreme power held by the Royal Family, House Wembley. The monarchy governs with the assistance of noble houses, including House Dornsife, House Calabria, and House Rockcliffe. While the king’s laws are supreme, local lords wield significant autonomy, often leading to political tensions. The king’s council and the Spire, the central administrative body, assist in governance.
Economy
The economy of Tokaido is capitalist, driven by industry, agriculture, and mining. Major industries include shipbuilding, armaments production, and oil extraction, while agriculture, particularly grain and wine, is centered around House Calabria's fertile plains. The economy is decentralized, with many smaller lords running their own factories and refineries.
Major Cities and Ports
- Kingston (3.4 million) – The capital city and primary economic, political, and military hub.
- Gateshall (2.6 million) – A major shipbuilding and trade city, home to the Western Fleet.
- Hannston (2.1 million) – A logistics and ore distribution center.
- Calabria (2.0 million) – An agricultural powerhouse producing grain, fruits, and wine.
- Skyhall (1.7 million) – Known for its oil production and unique water management systems.
The largest ports are in Kingston, Gateshall, and Skyhall, with Kingston being the most strategic for military and commercial trade.
Military
Tokaido's military is divided among the royal forces and those of the great houses. The Royal Army ensures the defense of Kingston and the Crown, while each house maintains its own military, leading to occasional tensions and conflicts that require royal intervention. The Home Fleet in Kingston and the Western Fleet in Gateshall protect the Empire’s maritime borders.
Culture
Tokaido’s culture is deeply influenced by its martial history and the legacy of the Conqueror. The Goth people value loyalty, honor, and tradition. The nation is known for its fine wine, textiles, and crafts, with Kingston serving as a center for innovation. The Cathedral of the Conqueror in Argyle is a key religious and cultural landmark.
The Empire of Tokaido remains a powerful and resource-rich nation, with a complex system of governance, a booming economy, and a strategic military presence in the region.
