Etymology
The name Yáguma originates from Nortem languages, Yá- is derived from yauría, the archaic form of Jauría, which translates to a pack of beasts; -gu- derived from gula, an archaic equivalent to gluttony; -ma denotates an entity. This name got adapted as Yágumdae for the taxonomal family, and Menoreyáma, meaning minor Yáguma, for a genera of Yágumdae.
Some species within this family have names phonetically similar to other crocodilians, these are the Marsh Aligador, or Marsh Alligator in english, and the Crocodylo Asperico, or the Asperic Crocodile. They are distinct from Alligators and Crocodiles.
