The Great Game (Revo-Kutsani War)

The Revo-Kutsani war was a conflict that took place from January 1890 until its end in March 1897 and was one of the most influential wars in the history of Carinidal. The War saw the two largest powers on the continent at the time; Imperial Reveia, a colonial power which had a solid grip over most of the continent for centuries, under Karl II, was looking to expand its holdings once again. Kutsan, an empire which had been undisturbed for over 2,000 years and was rapidly declining, stood opposed and was attempting to exert its influence over its local region to secure its near borders. The war is known for severely weakening the already declining Reveian Empire and allowing the nations under its control to rebel, the most notable of these nations being CiarraĆ, Sylvaro and Sylvaro.

In early January 1890, Reveish ships would roll through the Edro Ostein-Arcadian gap under orders of the King Karl II, their goal to project Reveian naval supremacy in the Irian Sea. Kutsani naval ships sailed out to meet the Reveish fleet as it entered Kutsani claimed waters, Admiral Hualpa Nand of the Kutsani fleet would give the order for his ships to send warning shots if Reveish ships continue towards Kutsan and to send message to the Padishah Emperor about the situation. Reveish ships continued their course towards the west coast of Kutsan and Kutsani ships would fire a volley of warning shots from the IKN Tilaloce off its small deck guns, the shots landed near the bow of the NMV Vedtak. Rear Admiral Kasper Anjou, would knowingly acknowledge the shots as warnings but would retaliate regardless. He would order the NMV Vedtak to fire all guns at the Kutsani fleet. The immediate volley strikes the IKN Kayna Kutsaya on its port side, detonating its ammo rack almost immediately sending a wave of smoke in every direction, caught off guard by the quick and brash response, admiral Nand scrambles to respond, sending the order to fire and manoeuvre. Admiral Sivaak Monroe of the Reveian fleet is also taken off guard and is stunned in disbelief by the actions of his subordinate and unlike Nand, Monroe fails to react in quckly.

The Kutsani fleet's initial manoeuvres allow them to disorientate several of the Reveian heavy hitters off the bat with concentrated fire from their 12 inch deck guns. Once their shots would hit, they would turn their ships to where only the bow is visible whilst they reload, making the already disorientated crews of the Reveish ships miss valuable shots early on. Once reloaded, the Kutsani fleet fires a devastating volleys one after the other, each being more accurate than the last, this tactic was known as the Nand Handle.

Admiral Monroe would finally organise his forces and issued a withdraw order to the fleet. Reveish ships began pulling back out of the range of the Kutsan vessels but are pursued rapidly, admiral Nand intends on completely annihilating the Reveish fleet to solidify control in the Great Sea in case of further battles. As Monroe moved his ships into positions to re-engage the pursuing Kutsani fleet, Petty Officer Antaud reports that fires had broken out of the NMV Henri I and the NMV Edard, just 20 minutes later, the Edard abandons ship and the Henri I was lost with all hands after being caught up to by Kutsani Cruisers as it limped to the rest of the fleet. Monroe would make the decision to disengage with the Kutsani fleet and flee the battle as to not lose any more ships.

In the immediate aftermath of the battle, Kutsan experienced a wave of patriotism and the Padishah emperor vowed to "repay the losses on the IKN Kayna Kutsaya tenfold". In Reveia, King Karl II called up the full might of the Reveian war machine and dispatched several fleets to the Great Sea in hopes of reinforcing Monroe before he could be engaged again.
