Federal Republic of Catura

flag of Catura

The Federal Republic of Catura (also known as just Catura) is a large nation in the Saclun continent, it borders Saqalona on its east, the UMF on its east and the LSR on its south. Catura is known for its isolationist politics.

//Disclaimer, not a lot of lore was written down for Catura due to this its neighbors (Safeish and Skytunnel) have taken the liberty to write most of the lore//

Meta

Catura was originally called the CCS (Confederated Caucus States) and was ran by datcheesyboi. Later datcheesyboi gave up the nation due to real life obligations, it was later given to Invalid Crow (at the request of ArchGuide who wanted to have them involved in a wargame). Invalid Crow turned it into Catura.

Pre Southern Union

Before the formation of the Southern Union in 1908 the place now known as Catura was made up of multiple independent nations

Formation of the Southern Union

In 1908  the Southern Union was officially formed in Caspia with the signature from 3 nations [list the nations] the others followed not long after before the last member, Saqalona, joined in 1921.

Formation of Catura

In 1939 the Southern Union formed into one Federated State: Catura. The document was signed again in Caspia much like the one that formed the Southern Union.

Dissolution

On the 17th of April 1963 the Caturan government was officially disbanded and it's territories split between the UMF and Saqalona.

Culture of Catura

West to North-West Catura and surrounding islands

Catura has a rich and diverse culture due to its large size. Towards the west, the land connecting to the Balearian isthmus, has many islands on both north and south of the land. Around this area and the surrounding islands are made up of “Caturan Phurupians”. These people are ethnically Phurupian (people from the UMF), they are split culturally between both having ties to their ethnic nation, while others have assimilated well. The climate of this region is typically marked by green fields and a wet heat. It is relatively flat but it can rain a fair bit. Mud can sometimes prove an issue here.

On the city of Saimin.

The third or sometimes debated, second largest city in Catura lies on a bay in the West of Catura. The name of this city is Saimin. It is a sprawling city with many water features, with antiquity buildings in high condition littering the city. It is known to be quite a beautiful city. The city has had a massive population growth in recent years due to the poverty and poor soil in the center of the nation.

On the Yenhe Mountain Range

The Yenhe mountain range separates the UMF from Catura. It stretches across the entire border apart from the southernmost end which has an opening.

(I will write more on this later.)

Central Catura

The most prominent and central culture is found in the Center. It is slightly based on India, in particular the great planes. It features large expanses of arid ground although with a reasonable amount of accustomed vegetation. The culture here is Caturan which is a mix of Turkic and Kalmykian culture if you have to draw parallels with our world.

On the capital - Caspia.

The capital lies in Central Catura just off the Astryk River, the name of the city is called Caspia. Caspia however is not the largest city in Catura by a long shot. This was for a simple reason… Its integrity, both population and infrastructure wise, was damaged in prior invasions on the nation. Because of this, Caspia only holds the weak government in charge of the nation, securely in a military base, governing in the city. The population has fallen compared to its glory days, but it still harbours many people and governmental officials. It is from here, that they can make sure no Caturan’s leave the nation “for a better life”. It said however, apart from their policing and military - the Caturan government is quite useless in most other capacities, with the city of Caspia reflecting this - having once grand stone monuments, now crumbling.

South Catura

There are two parts that you may call “South” in Catura. There is the south-western landmass, and then the central south, which have very different cultures.

South-western Catura is a much more cool land, with a climate similar to the coldest areas of New Zealand. It is very mountainous in this region with a rather low population. The culture here is similar to a mix of Germanic from the southern bordering nation and Tibetian/Nepalese, an evolution of Caturan in the mountains. This area is highly advanced scientifically, with various intricate homes being built on mountains for stability.

Central south Catura meanwhile is the most forested area of Catura, and while other areas like the east and west feature more tropical forests, this area is temperate with lush deciduous forests. This area is little explored and developed, with still native tribes living around the area. Researchers can say that the culture here is similar to the Ainu people comparing with the real world.

East Catura

Eastern Catura is similar geographically to its neighbour Saqalona with a hilly and coastal geography. Unlike its neighbour Catura’s eastern land is more densely forested with tropical trees as unlike Saqalona its farming and industry is able to be spread out across a larger area. Eastern Caturans do not share much in common either genetically or culturally with their Saqalonan Neighbours due to the Juplaj-Kakan Mountain Range (Salönias name) that separates them. Due to the general negative opinion of Saqalona following their exit of the Southern Union in 1939 migration between the countries is legal (and difficult due to anti insurgency) but heavily frowned upon.

On the city of Emisti.

Emisti is the largest city in eastern Catura and is located close to the south coast somewhat close to the Juplaj-Kakan Mountain range. Emisti is named after the Emisti river around which the city is built. The city suffered substantially out of the major cities from the short lived “War” with Sparola, Tokaido and Saqalona simply due to its location somewhat close to the border. The government and citizens worried that invasion forces would attempt to take Emisti first. Fears lead to many people fleeing for safety.

Before the formation of Catura Emisti was originally the capital city of [pre catura nation].

On the Juplaj-Kakan Mountain Range

The Juplaj-Kakan is the mountain range that separates Saqalona from East Catura. It is both large and spans almost the whole border with only a few notable breaks. The Juplaj-Kakan features the largest mountain in Saqalona (though not the largest in Catura. The Juplaj-Kakan is also mostly responsible for the large cultural differences between the neighbouring nations.
